I'd like to see a TBS or RTS that incorporates the fantasy and combat elements of HoMM and the epic scale of Civ. Seeing as that will probably never happen (unless I become a game designer), I'd like to see a BTS mod of Heroes of Might and Magic.

What it needs:

A subterranian world is a must, and a water faction would be nice too. I've heard multiple levels is possible, but noone knows how to do it.

Units and creature growth:
I never liked having two versions of creatures in HoMM. Having a hero just to go round up low level creatures and upgrading them was always a pain in the ass, so that should be left out. Nuetral creature dwellings would be barbarian faction of course. I don't have a clear picture of how creature growth will work at this time.

The economy:
Pretty much the same as it was in the game. Gold mines make gold, other improvements make other resources per turn. Fairly straightforward here.

Combat:
Those in depth battles get pretty old pretty fast. No need to mod this!

Factions:
Haven, Necropolis, Acadamy, Inferno, Preserve, the dark elf one (Asylum?).

Heroes and armies:
In the age of ice scenario, several pikemen could be made into a single phalanx unit. This seems like an appropriate solution.

I suggest you play HOMM if you want the factions and graphics of HoMM and you can play Fall from Heaven II, as suggested above if you want a unique fantasy total conversion of CIV with 21 unique new civilizations and spells and armaggeddon and guilds and events and dragons and gods and whatever not, ...though it is closer to Master of Magic than to Heroes of Might and Magic.

I actually wrote that post as I was downloading FFH2. I've been playing it for about a day now and I am very disappointed that I cannot play as the Infernal civilization as far as I know. I've found since my power is much higher than my neighbor, he asks to switch civs, but I'm not sure the demons will do that.

I'd really like to play HoMM, but it's just so boring, and I HATE not being able to convert cities from one faction to another.

Maybe I'll make my own mod, and it'll have hookers, and black jack! In fact, forget the mod and the black jack! Eh, screw the whole damn thing... (Bender)

you can play infernals, you just have to research infernal pact and then switch to Hyborem. no big deal, he enters just later when summoned...

Have you ever tried the HOMM3 mod called "In the Wake of Gods" (WoG). I'm a big fan of HOMM. I've made only about 4 games with HOMM IV. I really hate HOMM V (for me this just a bad commercial version of HOMM III). And I still play with WoG. The official site of WoG, check the FAQ to read how to install it. There are numerous options including one to convert towns.

Tcho !

Ugh, I just bought HOMM V yesterday. The last one I played was HOMM2 and I did like that alot, but so far HOMM V seems like they're trying to make a greatly inferior copy of WarcraftIII except with terrible voice acting.

I bet HOMM3 was what I was really hoping for.

The graphisms are in 2D. For the game game play , the only thing better in HOMMV is probably the level system (even if they killed the baby in the egg), and the monsters stack choice during combat. You can find thousands of custom maps for HOMM III ,and WoG is simply great ... you should really try it.

Tcho !
