Today it was found that Hotline Communication, the makers of Hotline Server and Hotline Client software, could be possibly out of business. This comes from the fact that their website, www.bigredh.com, is no longer functioning. The management of Hotline Communications was unavailable for comment as I have no idea what their phone number is.

I'm god, i know everything anyway, you don't have anything possible to hide to me :p
All your files are belong to us!

They must be having hosting problems. I hope version 2 comes out soon (or at least that it comes out some day). I am thinking about giving up on HL server and going with FTP. You can sell yourself with having experience with FTP servers but not HL servers. :_)

Well you cannot compare both Ftp and HL, for their purposes are totally different. Plus Ftp is based on TCP/IP suite, whereas HL has its own protocol.
But the main difference is that HL is exclusively for, huh... "something" that everybody know. Guess. Friendly chat? Eeerrr, yeah maybe ;)
Ok, obviously HL uses TCP/IP if it goes over the internet. :p non-techies talking techie talk! bah! ;)

mmm, fussy guy, well at least of course it uses the IP layer, but not TCP, that's a sure fact! :)

What do you mean....TCP/IP is made up of the following sub-protocols:
TCP
UDP
ICMP
IP
FTP
SMTP
LLC
ARP
DNS
SNMP
RIP
IGRP
OSPF
IWT
IS-IS
SNAP
RARP

And IP is only responsible for routing, error reporting and defragmentation of the datagrams. It doesn't "carry" info like some of the other protocols.

Try again GK. ;)

Unless you can show proof to backup your claim......read this and be edumacated. ;) http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/535/4.html

"IP

IP is the primary layer 3 protocol in the Internet suite. In addition to internetwork routing, IP provides error reporting and fragmentation and reassembly of information units called datagrams for transmission over networks with different maximum data unit sizes. IP represents the heart of the Internet protocol suite. "

Nothing about transfering data there!

Well unless I write badly in English (and this is surely the case) I'm not sure you understood what I meant.
1) I never denied that IP is the base of Internet.
What I claim is that TCP is not, definitively not the only layer 4 protocol that does exist (UDP is another example). That's all what I said. Concerning transferring data, I said that hotline use another layer 4 and + protocol of its own to safely carry data. And of course I admitted already that PH was right, those things use the IP lower layer. So maybe you don't understand me and I don't understand you then...
