    Someone had to say it. This is insane. My only choice is to spend all my production building warriors and scouts to fog bust. I'm simply being overwhelmed with barbarians right now. I suppose this is their effort to improve the difficulty, but this is not fun. I'm very tempted to stop playing Gathering Storm because of this.

    Barbarians in my last game were manageable, but it was a relatively small map with lots of people on my continent. Right now I have a huge continent to myself with huge empty spaces and I'm being overwhelmed.

    Something is wrong with the barbs for sure !
    I tried two games. In my first game they were spawning like crazy and in the second I only met one scout at turn 50ish (LOL).

    Mine have been extremely variable. 1st game I saw hardly any, second game a huge amount, current game as Maori I have seen none despite settling on a reasonably sized landmass.

    Wildly inconsistent would be my description. One game with zero barbs and one with a good number, more than R&F but just barely.

    At present I seem to be the lone vote for just right (and no one wants more). Maybe just a tad more barbs would be fun, but they've been a nonissue in my game. Seems about the same as R&F. Some people are saying there is a spawn rate correlation with high disaster ratings. Maybe I don't notice any difference because my disaster rating was at 2?

    Edit: Map size huge, Pangea.

    I haven't noticed anything different, to be honest. It's the same as always.
    I play large pangaea maps with 8 players.

    My first game I saw literally zero barbarians. Disaster setting was at 2. My second game had the Disaster setting at 4 and two barbarian camps were discovered on turn three. I was pinned down with barbarians early and it took a while to fight my way out.

    I don't know if it's linked to the disaster setting. Game three had it at 3 and a Medieval start and the barbarian amount was normal.

    I'll have to play a lot more games to know if there's an issue. Zero is arguably as bad as endless.

    Just started game where a camp was found about 7 turns in and I sent my Warrior towards it, as my scout finds a 2nd camp the next turn. The turn after that I hear the barb noise and see a 3rd camp had spawned... 4 turns later my scout runs into a 4th camp.

    I have been trying some Canada starts and yes the barbarian spawn of new camps is insane. I have tried a few starts and it has been like that in every game.

    On a standard fractal map I had if anything slightly less than RnF.

    As others have stated, it is variable. It goes from raging hordes a la vanilla game, to crickets a la R&F. I am not concerned, since both versions prepped me for GS’s wildcard barbs.

    On my first game (Continents) they spawned in a way that made me think something was bugged. They've always had the thing where camps respawn elsewhere the moment you clear one but the locations were always extremely close to my borders in my first game. Pop one, it respawns a few tiles over in the fog, that kind of thing.

    My current game, also on Continets, feel "normal". So not sure what is going on.

    My first game has me up north, so I'm stuck with barbs due to the isolation. But haven't gotten any horse or iron barbs, so they're manageable.

    I want more barbs! I have single camp on half the continent, which is cut off by a mountain range and only reachable by sea. I can send my settlers unescorted over half of the map and I still don't have the inspiration for cleaning a barb camp.

    First game. Huge Map - 12 civs- Disaster setting 2. I am clearing a camp practically every four turns or so. Camps are spawning the turn after I clear out a camp, often within 3 hexes.

    Barbarian spawn rates have been high. I can't withdraw my forces from the hinterlands or barbarians respawn.

    That said, it's manageable and lucrative to be grabbing all these camps. I wisely picked Initiation Rites and Monumentality and now the barbs are funding my settlers and builders.

    Sumeria would do quite well in this condition, while Rome could deal with them more effectively by having Legions drop Forts in empty regions (they provide Visibility even when unoccupied).

    In my first GS game (standard size, continents, world age new, sea level low, standard speed, King difficulty, 7 Civs rather than the default 8, and default number of City States, disaster rating 1) there were NO barbarians at all on my continent, where I spawned along with two AI civs, in spite of there being perfect places for barbarians, including huge stretches of tundra and snow. I finally ended up discovering two barbarian camps on the other continent, one in the extreme north and the other in the extreme south, around turn 200-ish, when I got round to fully exploring that place, densely populated by 4 AI Civs. Judging by this thread, it would seem the game is very unpredictable now when it comes to barbarian spawns.

    I don't know if the spawning of units work right. I have done a lot of work trying to make sure the scouts do not get back to their base camp but the camp spawn a warrior nevertheless.

    Trying these Canada games I gained more understanding of why Carl's game never took off in the Ed-Carl show down

    In my one game so far there were a lot of camps. It seemed my AI rivals had a lot of trouble dealing with them. It does make getting golden ages rather trivial.
