This is a simple question that I need at least someone with early access consider and answer.

On a windows pc, check where the game is installed and run a search for *.xml files in the game install directory.

For example, in civ 6 the location is in the folder:
c:\program files (x86)\steam\steam\apps\Sid*Civ*VI\base\assets\gameplay\configuration\data\

They may have kept the same folder, or a different folder. Hopefully everything is the same but c:\*civ vii\ instead of civ vi.

Thank you as I need to know this in order to decide on trying the original version, or waiting for the patch.

Is this the deciding point? (I’d help but I don’t have the game installed on a Windows PC.)

In each of those first four modules there are 'data' labeled folders containing the gameplay files.

Interesting structure, nice. But are there *.xml files in those folders? Such as buildings.xml, leaders.xml, etc

Civ7 has logs, settings etc in AppData. Saves in Documents. DMP files and such in the Steam folder.

Yes XML is still used for the gameplay/config database, content is here

On a side note the XML/Lua UI is gone, replaced by JavaScript/html

Ok, thank you all. Other than having an opportunity to learn javascript, this means that mods should be possible without messing with a compiler. So I'll give civ7 a try, but I'll wait til next month to see more of the reviews. Vanilla civ7 does NOT sound like an inviting gameplay, but with the chance of tweating the gameplay, it could be ok.
