How big do PBEM saves become?

I only ask as when I sent the first turn in my game the file was 180KB, now when I sent the 2nd turn it's up to 533KB!

Do they get much larger?

I only have got up to 1000bc, and some of those games are 592.

I think they just keep getting bigger, as numbers of units increase, but I'm not sure.
