I'm playing a game on regent as the Germans, standard map 8 civ's. Evereybody is in peace and has alway's been in peace (820AD). Then how is it possible that the zulu's got an army!! It's really a mistery to me, and it's damned annoying because they should have been my first target, and they still are, but makes the war more complicated. But more interresting is if they can get a Great Leader without a war, I should also be able to do that but how:confused:.

Does anybody have any Idea's how this could have happend?

(btw I'm playing with the 1.17f patch, and no ather mods!)

If you got 1.17f the first day it was available, they may have gotten the army out of a goody hut. It's also possible they fought a war before you were in contact with them and got a leader then.

I know it is possible to get an army from a goody hut but I say the Leader walking thru my territory, because we have a ROP. and there ain't no goodyhuts anymore, could it be possible he got it from fighting Babarians??

I havent seen any amrys from goody huts myself although so far the last game 1.17f I got 4 settlers and a worker in that order from the first 5 goody huts I hit. Was a nice jumpstart.

A Well sh*t Happens!!:D
But back to the topic, does anybody know something about this misterious Leader! I think he has to have gotten it from Babarians, but this, as far as I know almost never happens!

If I ever see a leader, within range of my forces, I will do everything in my power to kill it. Even if it means war with an ally.

I once got a settler from a goody hut and felt like I won the lottery. I get a lot of maps of the region, awake many angry warriors and once in a blue moon get a tech or warrior. My favorite is when I'm a turn away from getting to one and some other civ's unit I couldn't see last turn is suddenly there and takes it. It's me 'cause I've dealt with this both pre and post 1.17.

In my first 1.17f game, the English invaded me in the first era with two armies. I figured they got lucky in a previous war but now I'm not so sure. I can't complain, my horsemen destroyed the armies and I got a leader.

Second game, got 6 settlers from the goody huts. Obviously the expansionist civs have been strengthened.

Good grief yes. In the game I'm currently playing, the English got 5 techs IN ONE TURN! And since they did not yet have contact with any other civs, I can only conclude that at least 4 of those must have been from goody huts... IN ONE TURN!!!

Non-expansionist civs, OTOH, seem to get even worse results post-1.17f.

If you don't have embassies in other civs' capital, the war between them are not reported to you. So it's possible that AIs were fighting each other, but you simply didn't know.

I had embassies with al of them from about 1500 BC,so I would have seen any war even early wars, and there leader showed up in like 700AD, thats the strange part, because now there no babarians left because the whole planet is settelt upon and culture is spreading.

But I think we can also conclude that the goodyhuts yield more interresting resources then in the 1.16 patch, don't you guys agree:cool:

They may have gotten the leader by fighting barbarians. I once killed a barbarian with a panzer and recived a leader.

Goody huts always give me barbarians.. or nothing. Sometimes, when I'm really lucky, I'll get a free warrior or maybe an area map.

Dang hard levels .. they are making my brain go crazy!

I've been playing Civ3 for two months and have only gotten ONE great leader....how does this happen. What is everyone doing to get leaders? Also...what effect do leader have later in the game like in the Industrial and Modern ages?

You get a great leader by winning a fight with one of your elite units. The more fights you win with your elites the more likely you are to get a GL. Im not sure but I think that there´s a 1/16 possibility to gain the GL when your elites are victorious.

A leader can rush buildings and wonders or build armies. They have a great impact on the game.
