How do I destroy my own cities?

Starve them.
Go in the city and make all the citizens entertainers, or specialists. Have the city building a settler. When the population is 1 or 2 then make sure you have -zero growth-. When the settler is complete (I usually rush buy it), you will be told that work is complete, but the city is not growing. You will then be asked if you want to disband the city, disband it, you get a settler. This could also be done by building a worker with a pop 1 city, to get rid of the city and get a worker. Just got to remember that everytime you lose one citizen to starvation the computer will re-assign all the citizens to food tiles, so you have to go back into the city and make them all entertainers, again.
