How do I Download Mods?

I want to be able to use ppl's homemade scenarios and mods but once I download what I want, Idk where to put the files (which folders?) What's the difference between custom_mods and Mods???? and once I'm running the mod (It says the name in the top right corner) How do I play the scenario (It's a WWII 'mod')


I just have the original game (no expansion), but I have the 1.61 patch

Please help my newbness!!!
