I'm just wondering How can you sell a game which is registred on steam?

I bought the game on CD at a store so not online with steam.

However To install the game I've had to activate it on steam..

Is it possible for me to sell my copies of civ 5 or this impossible? Will the other person not be able to play it?

It's impossible, like you've already guessed.
That's also one of the major critique points of the online distribution system: That it ruins the market for used software :/.

Ok thanxs for the reply because I just got call of duty black obs for free because I sold all my old games :p

You should make a option in this forum By the way to close topics So if the creators says Someone answerd my question close this topic simply by posting : close it .

and after a few weaks let it close by it self So you don't see old topics from previous year on the main page

Normally we don't close old topics, just because someone asks for it, because it could be that somebody else has latter a very valid question about the same topic. e.g. the language translation thread comes to my mind. It drops sometimes quite a bit back, but then somebody new appears who can contribute to it.

I understand what you're saying, and I also don't like if somebody necroes a thread from the stone age, but well...that does not happen too often.

That's an interesting question. I too bought my CiV and G&K from a store.

If I get a new computer with required specs will it or won't work or does it depend on my registered account details.

Is my account at steam linked to a computer or linked to account registration and email?

It's not linked to your computer.
You can buy a new one, sit down on a computer of a friend, or rent a computer, download Steam, log into it, and download your games and play them (if the computer can handle them, and if you still know your login credentials; your account can only be active at 1 computer at the same time).

What The_J said was correct. It is linked to your steam account and having the correct e-mail registered at steam is also important. When moving from computer to computer, steam may send you an e-mail with a code that allows you to access steam on that computer. To avoid the download time, I have found that if you carry steam and all your registered (downloaded) games on a thumb drive, it is fairly easy to plug that into different computers and the games are already downloaded on the thumb drive.

Not true. According to the new EU court regulation, you can sell games/software bought at any distribution system. So if you are from the EU, simply ask Steam, point out to this decision of the EU court and tell them, you want to sell the copy to someone else. I really wish people stop giving false advice and answers before checking facts.

According to the court decision (Oracle vs. UsedSoft), you are legally allowed to sell your software, but this doesn't hinder the original distributor to build in any mechanisms which technically prevent it.
So yeah, it's legally allowed, but you technically just can't do it.

Would be nice if you could sell any digital games you own that are tied to your Steam account. They could perhaps charge a small fee to relinquish ownership of the title and transfer it to another Steam account.
I'd keep all mine though, you never know when you might want to play them in the future ;). Too many times I've ended up kicking myself for selling a game I wanted to play and sold years ago.
