I hate the long wait between turns, especially if i play a big map.... sometimes it takes so long that i get bored w/ continuing the game.... it takes forver to get from mid game-to-end game

The workers are mainly the problem, but how can i manage my huge civilization w/o a mass of workers to do the labor!

btw, i like to play huge maps... it gives me more satisfaction... since, it usually gets complicated in the mid game...

Any ideas? suggestions...?

I don't have any problem with it, but I tend to play on Normal maps w. 8 civs. That seems to be what the developers had in mind given the clumsiness of the foreign advisor screen for >8 civs.

It sounds like the huge maps aren't giving you as much satisfaction as you think! ;)

Upgrade your system. If you bought the latest and greatest first person shooter and it ran slowly on your system, you'd accept you need to upgrade, right? I don't see why civ 3 should be any different.

Or play on smaller maps (kinda like having to play at lower detail/resolution in fps :p )

With the new patch you can turn off alot of your own troop movement and friendly unit movement. This can really cut down on the time in between turns as not everything is displayed. Beyond this I always make sure that the pipe is filled with some high grade marijuana for those long gaps inbetween turns :)

Unless I am in an important war I'll just surf the web between turns during the later stages of a huge map game. I just take a minute and check around all my borders when I finally get to play again. I also always save my game at the end of my turn just in case IE decides to bring my system down. Sometimes I will reload and watch the computer moves to figure out just how the heck it did something, but not often.

If its 16 civs you like to play, tweek the editor to set a tiny map with 16 civs. It's very challenging and alot more fun as well.
Give it a try, it could be more stimulous.:goodjob: :goodjob:

have u tried setting the animationg for your own and friendly units off? this speeds up the wait time considerably. turn off show moves and it'll be even faster.

Thankx... the prob is not about my system... it's capable of running the game fine... maybe i'll just turn off the animations and other **** like that!!

Upgrade your system.

You shouldn't have to upgrade a system to play a turn based strat game, especially if you're already above the minimum specs.

yea .. try playing on a smaller map with 16 civs ... i think it is much more fun from the start of the game than a larger map ... and the turns are very fast .... i think the size of the map matters more than the number of civs .... much more .... anyone else find this? or just me?

I've been playing 16 civs on standard map. The lag is fine. Of course, I've turned off most animations.

I love 16 civs on standard map. You earn your place in history, but you have to gain territory as soon as possible. I almost always conquer with the sword and try to dent at least one of my neighbors early.

The weirdness is palpable. Make your game playable by disabling most of its features?

It is to laugh. Ha!

Animations take time by definition. If you want to watch several hundred animations per turn, that is your privilege.
