A question: how does one formally declare war on another civilation?

I have many of these little questions. Is there a strategy somewhere that shows basic information about how to play the game?

Thanks

I'm guessing you're new to the game? For your first question, just contact the civ (go to the foreign advisor and double click on the leaderhead) and one of the options says something like "You fool, prepare for war!!!". Click on that one. It should be the middle option. For your second question, I don't exactly know. Look around the site, you're bound to find something.

First off... Welcome to CFC!

Smartsquid gave a good answer if you're looking for the basic mechanics of the game...

As for questions...there used to be a quick answers/quick questions thread...but if you have a question, just post it. The worst thing that will happen is that you'll get about 20 people with 19.5 answeres. :D

Seriously - surf the War Academy, look in strategy articles, look here in S&T, and if your question isn't answered, just ask your question.

Yeah, and welcome to CFC! Go look in the Stategy Articles Section for answers to your questions.

I think one of the Articles helps with the basics, and the manual actually gives some help to new players.

@scoutsout: I can see your avatar again. :D

AFAIK it's still there...

Ok, thanks for the replies! And thanks for welcoming me! I am not really new at this game, it's just that I don't have much time to play, so I am still a beginner after owning the game for almost 2 years... :)) I will try to do as you suggest. On another note, does it make a difference (in terms of losing trust with other civs) if I just attack an enemy unit without first formally delcaring war on that civ?

Another question: if I want someone to view my current situation on the map, I know I can save and attach a picture of my game. The civ-fanatics forum provides 2 options: (1) insert image, (2) insert hyperlink. How do they work, exactly?

I have to say, there is no other game in the entire world (that I know of) that offers such a high-level, friendly forum as Civilization. Thank you, guys!!

1) No.
2) Insert images inserts an image; insert hyperlink inserts a link to the url you want.

Oh, sorry then.

Yes it makes a HUGE difference in world oppinion. Never do that.

Of course, what did you expect?

One way I sometimes go to war with on civ, is putting a sub in front one of their ships, so they will attack you and declare war on you. It sometimes hard to do, and will probably happen on mistake.

Yes it does, it makes a pretty big difference, at least from how many times I've tried that.
Did you check the active deals screen?

Unless the "enemy" has a unit either in your territory or floating around in no-man's land, it generally means you have units inside enemy territory - I thought that if you just attacked, its bad for your rep starting a war with units inside enemy lines - have I been making a mistake here?

Well, you don't necessarily need to start a war by attacking a unit inside your opponent's territory. I rarely do so myself.

I don't know what you mean by that. Oh and don't get mixed up between team colors, I sometimes do that and attack the wrong civ. :D

You might have broken a per-turn deal with your declaration.

Oh, so it doesn't affect world oppinion? What about the oppinion of the civ you're attacking?
