I mean if a civ is on war or allied with other civs and so on... how do you do that ?

Diplomacy, then Diplomacy Overview, then the rightmost tab - Global Politics shows agreements and wars and the overview shows who the city states are allied with

What would be nice - and I may be missing it, is to see exactly HOW each civ feels towards you. Everyone knows in civ4 you could just mouse over their nameplate and they tell you +1 for whatever and -1 for religions, etc.

Am I missing it or does that not exist in civ 5?

Yes I dont want the excel breakdown as in Civ4 but a simple status "hostile" "ambivalent" "Neutral" "Friendly" "Come hither look"

Yeah, but make it an option to see it. I kind of like the not knowing right now.

Thanks for the info i didnt notice that tab.

i'd like a screen that shows all the trade information.

That screen still doesn't show much. It doesn't tell you how much any civ likes or dislikes you. That's pretty much hidden in this game, except for when you eventually see "hostile" listed in the diplo screen.

I kinda like diplomacy not being an exact science like it was in IV. It makes it a lot more like real life. The only problem is the AI being extremely unpredictable.

i like the diplomacy as it is, i didn't at first but the more i play, the more i pick up on the more subtle nuances.

i do wish we had more information about how the various AI empires felt about each other though...

It actually means reading the situation on the map all the more important. Nobunaga marching up units on your western border may just mean something diplomatic in this game, as opposed to the random unit movements the AI did in Civ4.

... as in [c3c]

I really don't see the point. I sign collaboration pacts and secrecy pacts at the same time, there is little or no help keeping track of them when you play with many AI's, and finally you are forced to make the choice there and then, without checking any status. I really haven't noticed any changes between signing pacts or not signing them.

yeah, seeing japan massing at my borders has definatly sent me to the diplomacy screen in a panic trying to placate Nobunaga >.<

thats pretty good game design when it elicits that kind of response from the player .

Yeah. What's up with those pacts? I don't get it either.

Indeed. I am really glad that the actions on the map actually mean something. In Civ4 I could have huge stacks marshing outside my territory without caring much...

Hostile does show up in the Diplomacy Overview, it's usually preceded by a leader coming to you and saying, "It's always nice to see my favorite city-state".
