How do you plan to aid the relief effort?

How are you helping?

I just noticed that there is an ad below asking for people to donate to the Katrina relief efforts. I am curious on what the CFC community plan to do to help in this time of crisis. I have made this poll a multi-choice since I know there will be some people who will do more :).

I have donated money and a carton of Tampax (don't ask). I can't give blood, because I did that only three weeks ago.

I'm gonna donate some money. all the others are tricky when you live in th UK

If I can get over my fear of needles, I plan to donate blood. Funds are limited for me since I am a college student.

Well, I'm unable to be there in person. And I'm too far away to even be considered for use of a place to sleep. I've donated money, as much as I could spare while leaving enough for my textbook purchases later this week.

I don't even know my blood type, but I don't think that'd be a problem. I'd have to hit up a hospital or anywhere they do that to donate.

CG, just don't look when they get ready to stick you. That's how I deal with my fear of needles, and I've given over 2 gallons of blood (a pint at a time) in my life.

Thats what my step-father told me when I went in for my blood work tests ;).

I donate money on the basis of a monthly standing order to Oxfam, if they use some of that on Katrina I'll have in a way helped. If not, I'll have helped someone else.

Once I'm properly earning again I'll up the amount I donate from £20 a month, perhaps to £50 a month.

The local chapter of the American Red Cross was planning to send down several groups over the coming weeks. I wanted to go, but I've been sick and when I took Penicillin for it, I found out that I was allergic, so now I have to await test results to make sure that it is not something else. If I am cleared, then I may decide to go down with one of the later groups.

That is ridiculous. And people still wonder why there is racism and other types of prejudice in this country.
It is not ridiculous! Some major relief organizations (such as the Salvation Army) do not help lesbian/gay/bi/transgender people, so they end up short

I find that extremely hard to believe.

Unless it was pretty obvious, it would be hard to determine who was straight or gay or bi. Well, I'm sure there's organizations that don't care who it is.

But, some aid somewhere is better than nothing.
