In the early game, use the luxury slider to give your serfs their beard and circuses. Also, you can use temples/cathedrals to drug them with religion. However, to really pacify your teaming millions, build marketplaces and get luxury resources. Trade 'em or Conquered 'em, they can assure that you never have deal with their petty problems.

In a despotism, two military units can keep a size 3 city pacified at any difficulty level. Build two warriors, fortify them in the city, and start on those settlers.

So fortified army in town can prevent unrest (or is it only in Depotism)? Can it prevent flipping to enemy as well?

No...your own armies won't prevent your cities flipping to your enemies. This can only be avoid by producing more culture than your opponents.

No, the only way to avoid culture flips is the avoid having any foreign citizens in your cities, and avoid having any of your cities having a tile of their 20 tile radius in enemy territory.

But, actually, enough troops will prevent flipping. Enough usually = like 300.

:eek:

How about preventing unrest? How many do I need to go up one happy face playing on, lets say Monarch (if that is possible at all)

In despotism, monarchy, and communism you can use your troups as miltary police. Definitely not in Republic or Democracy. Not sure about fuedalism, or fascism.

I see I never played anything besides Rep and Desp so I wouldn't know. Is military police unit you can make or is it specialist?

Military Police is any unit - warriors work fine for this.

But it's limited, to 2 in Despotism and Monarchy nad 3 in Commie (not ure about the Feud and Fascism). If you have more units than your Government's MP limit, they won't do any good.

Military police limit in fascism, communism - 4;
feudalism, monarchy - 3;
despotism - 2;
republic, democracy, anarchy - 0.

Is there anyway to count the amount of happy/unhappy citizens rather than count the face one by one? I know domestic advisor shows the amount of happy/content citizens, but I don't see any unhappy citizens.

There's no way to see them as you might like to without a 3rd party utility like CRPmapstat. You just need to keep track of what is going on or let the govenor manage citizen moods.

Download one of the graphics mods that shows happy faces next to the citizens. It will be easier to see at one glance how many citizens are happy/unhappy. Another thing, in the F1 scree I usually sort all my cities by population so that the higer pop cities, which are more likely to riot, come up at the beginning of the list.
