How do you split a civilization?
I've never seen it done before.
Also, what does OCC stand for?

In OCC, you can only have one city, ever. Before you enter a hut, you must save. If the hut produces an advanced tribe, you reload and take the first non-tribe result. You can destroy cities, but never capture them. The idea is to use a single city to get a SS to Alpha Centauri ASAP. Less commonly, you can try OCC conquer the world. OCC is always played at deity (you could play at other levels, but don't want to). OCC goes very fast, and it is common practice to keep a log of your game. Smash is the resident OCC expert, and I think he's playing an OCC game in one of the forums right now (Strategy or General Discussion). This is the definitive link on OCCs: http://members.home.nl/paulvdb/occ.htmOCC means One City Challenge, I think. I'm not sure exactly what the civ fanatics are trying to do, but I think you try to play the game without building any cities, except maybe your capital. Maybe barb huts can be used.
You might think the OCC is an MP thing... it is actually a SP game variant. It avoids the tedium of a full mega-game, and you get a nice feeling to whooop the AI when you have only ONE city, hehe...Maybe I'll try the One City Challenge sometime. Never played anything except single player and Hot Seat with my wife.
Hmmmm.... "Buy Civ and play hotseat with your wife!" Maybe an advertising angle for future games? And somehow, single player hotseat with your wife sounds better than "multiplayer"Never played anything except single player and Hot Seat with my wife.
I've noticed that while playing SP games on rare occasion... never done specific tests on that aspect, though. Tried the link, but as usual, page did not respond. Last weekend, though, I had about 2 consecutive hours (in the middle of the night) at Apolyton! I think they are just very busy a lot of the time.by Smash:
Extensive testing has shown you can split civs that are ahead of you in power. Not just the leader. Also capitol size plays a role.
Really? Wow, I've never seen that one. Do you remember any other details of how you got is, like was the spy approaching an enemy city, or was it an Advisor, or just a "random" popup, or what? No big deal, just interesting.by Le Petit Prince:
One time I received a pop screen saying: "Spy report that if we take the Russian Capitol the Empire will split"
It is in you "User CP" (user Control Panel), a button on top of each page. Then, choose "Edit Options", then "Change Avatar" (at bottom).by Comrade Juhon:
How do you make those partisan or tank things next to your name when you make a comment??
The Civ II manual makes some general statements about why... and it does make sense. If you're ahead and powerful, why should the AI peacefully let you just waltz in with an "easy" win, LOL? The least they can do is settle their differences and gang up on you (as the most powerful, or the one who launched a SS).ThisI can never understand.
