Now , some people might think this is a stupid question but the only MP games i played in civ were either with a friend or my brother with who'm i can stop when we went and pick up again.

So my question is: how can you even play a game which usually takes dozen's of hours before being finished with random strangers? Do people play on "quick" speed on tiny maps or so ? I'm really curious because i'm for the first time considering playing Civ online which is the last thing i haven't tried to try to like Civ V

Me and my buddies just dedicate some time. With 1 other player, we can usually beat the game on standard speed before the ADs on a Small map. Takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.

That said, if you're not going for Domination, it could take up to 4-5 hours easily. You can reload auto saves, but you can't manually save (well, you can, but it's a bit hack-y).

There's a lot of things missing in MP. Nothing that'll stop me from playing MP, but are really aggravating nonetheless.

people play with quick speed and with a turn timer which gives you around 1 minuite to play your turn. tiny/small pangea 4-6 players and classial-medeval combat. ive never actually completed an FFA with randoms, after someone crashes then everyone leaves

this is why I hate TB multiplayer games. I like to play at my own speed. Take a couple turn, get coffee, take another turn, change a diaper...etc. MP doesn't work for me.

I tried it, i couldn't handle it, it was pretty awful. I don't know if it was civ5 specifically, or just because its turn based. i absolutely adore the single player game, but It's going to take alot of convincing to get me back online.

TB multiplayers can be simultaneous or sequential, very different plays.

Sadly, this game just supports simultaneous... and I don't want understand why.

I only play multiplayer with people I know, and at a regular speed. We just save and continue later when we're done for the day. With the autosaves set to everyturn it's not a problem.

4-6 players on a small land map with quick speed is the most common
it takes about 4-5 hours to get to artillery on the average pacing of people ending turns and needing to make lots of units instead of libraries/universities/specialists

from my experience, people will usually quit within the first 30 minutes or stay until they don't have a chance to win
