I am in a game right now where I am behind the Greeks by a turn to build Sistine Chapel. It's a 20k game and I have all the wonders in my capital except three. It is a huge map and they are far from me I have 9 turns left they have 8.

My first thought was to get all the AI to dogpile onto the Greeks and maybe they will lose some lux or get some war weariness and one of their citizens will switch to entertainer.

My next thought was that I have democracy and they do not. I am thinking I should sell/gift them the tech and maybe they will go to anarchy.

I just wonder if the AI is smart enough to know it is in the lead on the wonder build, how it might weigh the benefit of republic vs democracy.

I've used the trick of gifting/selling a gov tech but only with monarchy or republic when the AI was still in despotism, and then it always worked, AI goes to anarchy immediately. Now if the Greeks are already in republic I don't know whether giving democracy will persuade them to revolt.

I don't think the AI has any perception of how they stand in a wonder race, at least they certainly do not have any idea in the case they are hopelessly behind, and in fact will not abandon the build even if you are about to conquer the city in which they are building it.

I'm pretty sure the AI doesn't consider builds-in-progress or competitive completion in any situation. (Well, maybe except if you're about to build a space ship.)

Getting him Demo would probably be a great way to stunt his progress. I'm not sure how to tell if he likes that gov, but I think Greece likes Demo and if he does he'll switch.

I've seen AIs switch from Monarchy to Republic in the middle of an old, bloody offensive war and have it cripple their happiness and economy. It takes them a few turns to figure out that was a bad idea.

And they'll keep on building wonders when it should be clear to them the most important thing to keep them alive is to build more troops.

They don't seem to reconsider existing builds, nor do they consider negative impacts of a government change.

Also, I think you have an advantage in turn count...I don't recall if you win if you are "tied" in turns to completion or if they are one up.

If it's far enough in the future you could send a worker or two over and irrigate a mine or two in the AI city. They don't seem to consider that casus belli, although once I was forcibly kicked out for having two workers roading in AI territory.

You can try, don't know if they will switch from Repo or not. If you have a Spy and the cash disrupt the production with be enough to get the wonder.

I had to gift like four techs for 38 gold, but it worked! Greece went to anarchy the next turn.

I am still in middle ages and can't plant spies.
