In most places the use of a 1/4 mile is the standard for determining the acceleration of a vehicle. For this poll, select the amount of seconds it would take your vehicle to finish a 1/4 stretch of road starting from a stop.

Often polls arise which ask each member what type of vehicle they drive. According to this poll, most members drive something other than a motor vehicle or don't drive at all. For those that do drive, whether it be the likes of a motorcycle or a car, how fast is your mode of transportation? If you ride a high speed train I suspect your mode of transportation is fairly quick, but you're just a passenger so unless you conduct them don't vote.

Also provide insight on the benefits of owning a vehicle that is as quick as yours, as average as yours, or as slow as yours. If your vehicle is slow, I suspect its economical. If a Hybrid or environmentally friendly vehicle had the capability to accelerate quickly would it influence your purchasing decision?

What have you done to increase the horsepower of your vehicle? Also, what have you done to increase the economy of your vehicle at the pump? Do you believe vehicles should be capable of reaching the speeds they currently can? Should governing of speed be mandatory on all vehicles?

I drive a 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. 2.0L turbocharged all wheel drive. I've got a 16g turbo with the boost set at 20psi, all supporting fuel modifications, stage 3 clutch, chipped ecu, shortthrow shifter, and a three inch exhaust with no cat or muffler. The vehicle is good for a low 13 second 1/4 mile. I've done nothing to increase the economy of the vehicle whatsoever. I couldn't own the quickest car on civfanatics could I?

My feet can finish a 1/4 mile stretch of road in 3 or 4 minutes, flat.

But I don't know how many people would keep accelerating for a quarter mile, unless they were heading into a highway from a stop.

Reasons including the underground racing scene or sanctioned sport. Perhaps just for excitement.

i lied i still cant drive.

Do you plan to own a gasoline or diesel vehicle when you can drive? For now, how fast does your Taxi Cab's Crown Victoria accelerate?

I would imagine most "other" responses indicated that the voter drove a sedan.

Somehow the most common type of car wasn't a choice.

Anyway, I've never bothered to time myself on the quarter, and I'm sure nobody has timed my car, either.

It's pretty slow, though. I do have an appreciation for old cars and their large V-8 engines, and I would like to have some old car just to drive around on weekends or something like that. Possibly restore it if I learn what I'm doing.

In general, I prefer not having to buy tons of gas. It's a silly thing to be doing all the time.

Mazda = mid 14s

Nova = mid 10s

The Crown Vics and Town Cars that the car services have a lot of here get some good jump, but nothing compared to cars designed to accelerate as fast as possible.

From that link of yours:

1991 Ford Crown Victoria LX 9.9 17.4
1992 Ford Crown Victoria LX 9.5 17.1
2005 Ford Crown Victoria LX 8.1 16.2

And I don't think there are many newer Crown Vics on the road.

I top my Mazda out everyday. Thats floored for almost a mile.

I wouldn't use a Taxi either. But you should definately think about moving out of the suburbs since that is definately a horrible place to be growing up with all those lighted streets with no one on them at night and a bunch of perverts living about you. Buying a car will help you achieve the freedom you require to leave the suburbs - and you should buy a fast one.

I keep forgetting:

New York City crazy fun on highways driving != Rest of country crazy fun on highways driving.

Sometimes that's good or bad.

So is a 350 capable of being bored or stroked out to a 480 or is that a big block?

Its an all aluminum Merlin block based on the Chevy big block.

Lexus ES300: 16.3 seconds, though mine has an added turbo so I could probably shave a couple of seconds off that. Also my car isn't much for fast acceleration (due to its size), but it has the horsepower to go pretty fast.
