Proffesions like tobacco experts and master distillers. I put the people through school and the only options I get is firebrand preacher, elder statesmen, and resource end producers. I am sick of waiting for them to send them over for free.

    Thank you

In order for a student to learn something in a school you need someone to teach them...

The student goes into the school and then one of the specialists in that colony teaches them (you choose who does the teaching at the end). Some teachers require a salary to teach while others will do so for free. Regardless, you need the professional in the colony in order for the student to learn the skill.

You can get (almost?) any profession from Europe but you will have to spend gold. The pot-luck is nice but you rarely get prime rib.

You do know that above the three colonists looking to come over there is a recruitment box. For around $1000 each you can buy as many distillers and such as you want, whenever you want.

I do know that and my entire game I never ever got one master weave, one cigar specialist, one weaver, or distiller. I think thats bad luck and there should be one mechanism preventing that form happening.

Keep in mind that you can get criminals/servants/colonists at the docks as well (and these are probably weighted to occur more often than getting a professional) so the chance of getting ALL of the professionals over the meaningful portion of the game (first 150 or so turns) is remote at best.

The mechanic is working as intended, and a lack of good luck does not equate to bad luck. You were unfortunate not to get one of those professionals but you should base your game not around fortune but instead around strategy and execution (of the strategy, not necessarily of the natives).

Dude, this is the intention of the game.

Some specialist can ONLY be acquired from the natives. Europe can supply you most of the specialists with money, the rest you got to get from the natives by being friendly with them and send your colonist to their camp for training.

Im not complaining about the fact that I did not get every kind of expert specialist from Europe but I did not get even ONE specialist from them. Most of my resources were based around sugar (Rum) and Cigars. Europe never supplied me with any of the advanced ones Ever not even one. If they never supply you with one you never can make one. There should be atleast one way to attempt to make one even at a heavy cost.

As others already said here, there is one - in Europe you can train any indoor specialist, scout, soldier and pioneer. It costs 800-2000 gold, 25% discount with Peter Minuit. You didn't notice that button.

Besides, do you still play with your starting ship? You can buy ships and cannons too using the same button.

As the manual says (I think it was the manual, maybe it was the 'pedia):

Training with the natives is a way to get specialists. Each native city has one specialist ability they will train, and one resource they want (each city, not each civ). To figure out which they want, send a person to the native city to talk to the ruler (you usually get a bonus as well for visiting them). Then, you will know what they train and what resource they want to trade. To train with the natives, send the person you want to train there (colonists train fastest, criminals slowest, servants in between) and the option will appear. Each city is different -- look for the natural resource you want.

I have found in one game I made the most use of this, that the very people I couldn't get from Europe, I could get from some natives. It may be coincidence, or it may be balance. Of course, once you get one, you can either send another to train, or you can go the schooling route.

FYI, you will only get a bonus if you are the *first* to visit them.

Actually, to be more accurate (at least on easier difficulty levels), you only get a *gold* bonus if you are first to visit them. Otherwise, you generally (but not always) get a small resource bonus (for example, I have gotten 12 furs for visiting them when I wasn't first).

There is a green button over the three colonists in Europe which will let you buy almost any master profession. I see a couple other people have mentioned it but it doesn't seem to be clear yet. Press the button, get ANYTHING you want. You don't just have to wait for the 3 to show the kind you want, you can press the green button to buy all except Jesuit Missionary and Veteran Soldier (I think).

I went through the exact same thing. I read all these forum posts wherein people were talking about hiring expert this, and master that.... and I had no idea how/where these folks could be obtained. Then I discovered that you can, without fail, hire any/all professions in Europe whenever you want.

There's the pool of freebees, above them is the three random "hurry" options, and above them is a green button (?) where you can hire anyone you want.

Well the mechanics may be different now, but in the original game there were several specialist types you could not get from Europe. There were two ways to get one of these professions. The first is sending a free colonist to live with the natives. This is still the case now. Every indian village will train you to be some profession. Speak to the chieftain to find out what they'll train you to be.
The other way was that a free colonist spent working at something in a city had a small chance of randomly learning their trade and becoming a specialist. I haven't had this happen in the new version, so I don't think it's possible.

Master Tobacco planters and sugar planters are two that are only available this way. I've noticed in this version you can't hire scouts from Europe either. You can only get them if they show up randomly on the dock.
I don't think you can get Master Fur Trappers either.
