I was just looking at my hall of fame after I finished a recent game with spain, and noticed something weird. A france game of mine I got 2100+ score and finished in 1751. In my spain game, I had 1900+ score and finished in 1760. However, the finalized score ended up being higher than the france game where I got a higher base score and finished earlier. I dont have the exact numbers now but finalized score was 20000 ish for both games, but still Spain ended up with more.
How is equalized score calculated?

I think you might mean "normalized" score, as opposed to your in game or "base" score.
Techs give a high base score (+ 30 each, depending on the techs of course) and a low normalized score (+ ~150 each). Population however gives a low base score (+3 each), but a huge normalized score (depending on your empire).
