How is your EU3 Game going?

eu3.jpg

It's the year 1470 something and I bet you can guess who I am easily :) (for those of you who can't, I'm the beast of the east, and I'll leave it at that )

But seriously, I've been having a problem and I'm not sure if its a glitch or just bad management er something. For some strange reason, just randomly (or usually right as it maxes out) my manpower will just start decreasing. Even during peacetime when none of my troops are dying, my manpower will just reduce itself by 1,000 a month until it hits around 3000-4000 when it will stop. Once it gets that low, my troops will then just start randomly dying, and because it's that low, they won't refill. So I end up in this viscous cycle and until I can delete a good amount of units, it will start to refill again. But even then, it will only refill at the rate of 1,000 a month, even though the manpower indicator says it can do about 4,000 a month.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it bad management of my armies or just some unholy glitch? Please help, since this problem has almost cost me a few key wars.

You must have a high atricion rate, more troops in a region than can be supported by that region.

These aren't soldiers that are disappearing (I can tell because the manpower thing tells me that I have 0 soldiers to replace this month), its my manpower. Plus this starts happening during peacetime, when my soldiers are in my own provinces, so attiration doesn't have effect (unless I'm mistaken )

The way I understand it, each province, even your own and at peace, can support a certain maximum of troops on their territory... If there are more in that province than that maximum, you lose men who are automatically and immediately replaced from your manpower pool. So you don't see your troops dying, just the manpower being drained...

At least, I think... ? That maximum per province increases as you research certain stuff I believe or you advance in the game at the very least.

I just borrowed this game from a friend, so if I want to get a picture up here where to I go to get those map pictures.

Press F12 when in game and then when you're back on your desktop go through your HOI3 directory and find the screenshots folder. You may need to press Compatability files once in the folder itself to bring up the screenshots.

here's my portugese game. I got qftnw very early and colonized south america. I allied with castille and we crushed morocco, aragon and algiers. when castille broke the alliance I allied with france. I declared war on castille twice. Then with my nemesis out of the way I stopped giving a damn about europe while colonizing even more.

France keep losing provinces to the big fat blob austria and everybody hates france, except me and castille (I allied with castille again). Just recently I nailed england, taking their east-asian provinces and freeing ireland. Muscowy is really scary, they have killed the ottomans. I hope that they soon will pile on austria.

No Simon, you are correct. But I think his problem is that he ISN'T replacing any soldiers.

You should check all your info pages and regions for anything reducing manpower.

What should I check for? I don't know anything that could kill off so many, I mean, my maximum manpower is 109K, but once it starts its random decline (which is impossible to stop) I end up with only 4,000 men. What could kill of 100,000 Chinese men  (at the rate of a thousand per month). Is there some strange hidden modifier for the Ming I'm not aware of?

As I said, attrition is the most likely cause. Failing that, than perhaps you have some kind of negative modifier, which should show up in the various menus you use to adjust your research and hire generals and stuff. It will be in the first overview panel iirc.

Aw well, thanks anyway, I just downloaded HTTT, so the saves aren't compatible. I guess we'll never really know then :dunno:

Its probably attrition. Certain areas have really low numbers of maximum troops supported, either by a lack of population or thanks to its climate type. Another annoying option is when other nations move troops through your areas and just as you move into the next month, have a stack in the same province as your troops. I hate losing men thanks to that -_-

Ill try and see if I can FINALLY get a screenshot working of my current Swiss game with HTTT. Its simply insane how much money I make and how easily I steamroll everybody around me!

Well forming HRE in HTTT is very very easy. I had not so much land when I formed it. I just made some countries join HRE and crush france and replace it with HRE states...

For those of you who don't have Heir to the Throne yet, it's half price on Gamersgate right now. 'Cause you know, I bought it last week full price.

Are you kidding me! :dubious:

I just bought it three days ago full price!!!! [pissed]

My current game as Sweden, 1575:

My long term goal is to make Östersjön a Swedish inland sea.

My biggest worry is Muscovny who once in a while get a reason to attack me. His army is as big as mine (50k), but I got a 1/3 of mine in the colonies. In the last war his main stack was too big for me to handle and I could only get out because of the single units I picked off in the beginning.

Unfortunately he's allied with Portugal which is a huge threat to my colonies in America. Portugal has moved capital there.
