A greek Trireme:

How many would it take to sink a WWII era battleship like the USS Missouri?

Lets say there's a battleship off the coast of your country and all you got are triremes, but you have an infinite number of them. How many would you need to send?

Are we using vanilla stats, or a certain mod?

How many spearmen per ship?

Depends on how deep the body of water the battleship is in. And even then, they will only have succeeded at preventing it from moving.

For this battle, lets say its an ocean but your objects is not necessarily sink it(although that would be the KO), but just make it retreat so it won't threaten your land.

I think a better question to ask is: "How many Triremes could a battleship sink until it runs out of ammunition."

I'm actually talking about in real life.

In Civ 4, I think 10-11 should be able to manage.

Nope just tried it and it took about 80 (unpromoted). If the battleship was promoted to drill4 it would be almost invincible to them I think.
Real life, seems like the battleship really would be invincible to them.

It would definitely be invincible. There's no way to sink a battleship without high explosives. Half a ton well below the waterline will do it for some of them, but you can't guarantee that will be enough. At the waterline, they simply lack the force to put any holes in the hull. Assuming a stationary battleship, it would carry enough ammo to sink 1000s of the things. Once it ran out of ammo you might try boarding it, but that's a wall of steel over 20 feet high to climb from a little boat. Once on top, you'd still need high explosives by the ton to get inside the ship, because all the entries have armored hatches. They can just wait for you to have to leave to find food.

The battleship would instantly be destroyed, along with Earth and the observable universe, if an infinite number of Greek triremes were to appear out of nowhere.
