Civ4 is coming, and Civ3 already took many of old experienced civ2 players out of the Civ2 forums. Many people forgot what Civ2 IS! A great game, but now the Civ2 forums have few posters and I think that in some years ElephantU and Ace, two of the most important posters here remaining, will be gone forever or will move :(. This will be the end of the race of Civ2 players. Probably most of them will be moving to Civ4.

I just saw the War Academy: It has plenty and good articles, but their original writers are no longer here. They are gone forever. Is this the end of Civ2?

I'll most definitely keep playing. Right now I'm hooked on the Master of Orion series, but my science project for school involves the use of Civ2, and I'll probably re-trigger my addiction to it then...

Civ4 will certainly not kill Civ2. Civ1 is still around to a certain degree, right?

That said, I don't know, but staying with Civ2 is the most probable outcome.

I'm staying with Civ2. I'll just play them both (Or just civ2 if 4 turns out to suck.. I never really played 3 after all). Though theres not really much to talk about on the civ2 forum anymore.

I truly do not understand why more people don't enjoy ToT. It's my absolute favorite Civ game, period.

To me, a game of Civ is more than just numbers and kills (except when the computer annoys me). I like to envision a story behind the action.

Yes, me too :D! You know, something that is not pure technical stuff like MM and combat factors. I like, in all my civ games, to think there is a great empire in formation, massive wars occuring for some reasons, treaties llike "The Treaty of Hastings", with me stealing gold and destroying the entire German economy. This game is more than numbers: it is fun, and playing Civ makes you think you're rebuilding history. Brilliant, indeed.

I honestly have no idea whether I'll forsake Civ2 for Civ4.

I'm noticing a lot of folks saying stuff like "what I've seen of Civ4 looks troubling" and I'm not really sure what they're referring to. I see lots of promising things, the long list of which I won't go into here. My main concerns at this point are:
    - hi-res-induced lag on my machines (or over my network connections!)
    - the bugs, esp. in multiplayer
    - the community's ability to create its own graphics for units & stuff, 'cuz Sid knows I'm not good enough at it
    - the religion system being more of a tacked-on, in-the-way feature as opposed to something "fun"
    - for that matter, the emphasis on getting rid of things they don't perceive as "fun," like corruption, which I always shrugged at

What else are some of you Civ2 folks worried about in Civ4?

P.S.-- I agree with Valka about ToT, but only because I modded it so all the graphics look like regular Civ2. :D

IMHO Civ2 is the greatest game ever created. I will definitely still play it. :)

The game certianly hasn't died its just that most of the people who still play it play less often and do it in sprees. One month you will be hooked to Civ2 then another month play a different game and then back to Civ3 then later Civ2 again. Besides which most people who still play Civ2 dont post that much unless something in the game happens that is extrodinary.

Exactly. Real Civ2-ers barely have time to post between Civ2-sessions.

Same here - well, not to regular Civ2, but I've changed them - even the GUI. Some people actually like ToT's graphics. Incredible, I know. ;)

I like ToT's graphics. I don't understand why you'd want to change them to regular Civ 2. You might as well play Civ 2 and forget about ToT.
