How to add programs to the open with menu in windows 7

How do I add programs to the open with menu in windows 7? It appears that after you open the file with a program enough times it will sometimes automatically add the program to the list of options, but is there a way to do this manually? Thanks
PS: I do not want to have to download a third party program to do this.

"Choose Default Program," browse for program, and make sure the "Always open" is de-checked. It seems to work for me
