How to be a builder?

Start a custom game, and close all slots for AI's or turn Always peace & No Barbarians on. But that would be boring wouldn't it? :p

If you're having trouble with wars & micro go see the War Academy.

Sorry for the rush post

I dont really have problems with micro and wars, i just wish for the peaceful victory.

My current game as an example. I decided to make a cultural victory with Lincoln, like taking advantage of his Phi trait to pop lots of artists.
Setup is Huge Continental Epic Prince (first time Prince actually)
Started on wheat, corn and sheeps in bfc, river and lake and 4 tiles of grassland, quite good for GP farm. Also marble nearby.
Then i've started to scout, found that i'm on NE of continent, and first AI was Suleiman 15 tiles away to W. Not the best neighbour to have, but ok.
Then it started - first i met Ragnars' scout, and little bell in my head started to ring, warning me about danger. What i didn't wished for is to be stuck close with Ragnar and Suli. I scouted to south only to find his capital 10 tiles away. Let's leave in peace? Yeah, sure dude. DoWed and did a mixed chariot-axe rush on him. Burned 2 cities and left the capital. Quite easy. But then i found myself on 50%, then 40% and below, i realised it was my army left after a war, but i didnt wanted to disband it because it is a huge hammer loss -.-. So i continued to make new cities and new units. My units was on stroke when i DoWed Suli, and grounded his cities except capital because it had shrine of my religion. What now, i have 15 cities and decent territory. Asoka to W is no trouble, Monty to SW is worrysome but ok, Joan to the S have about 30% jungles in his territory and his futher expansion struck. Far to the south there are Perickles and i find him threatful for my cultural victory. Then i found out myself making new units for no real reason. DoWed Joan and FINALLY started to make catapults >_<

Wth, it was supposed to be a cultural game.

Sorry for no screenies, i usually play on other pc.

The problem is this is what happens every time i try to burn throught tech tree with cottages or be a wonderbuilder or run specs. Instead i find myself razing cities and reseaching classical era techs like CS and machinery in 1300 AD.

Try to keep your neighbours pleased/friendly, thats the easiest way to prevent a war (spiritual might help to change to civics and/or give in demands without losing too much in the form of anarchy). It's very hard to keep everyone happy, so choose your religion wisely (neighbours or the one that most people have).

play occ

another would be to play deity
when you would see AI stacks, you wouldn't wanna war again.

What would be the best mapscript to chose in order to get a start where you are not isolated, but would have room to expand and even try and work on your Rexing skills ie get a map where it would be a bit of a land grab.

Inland Sea - the ring constrains neighbors in the opening. Donut has similar topology, but is a bit food heavy.

Maybe Oasis.

By the way, if you're going to go for an early rush, you should focus on taking the capital! Capitals tend to be far better cities than the others, so by taking it you get a much better captured city, and you deprive your opponent of a significant source of production and commerce. Of course, there's nothing wrong with blowing away a poorly-defended city that's on the way to the capital, but you only have so many units, and a limited ability to make more; don't waste your units destroying cities that aren't going to be significant. You can always mop those up later.
