• Build 1.5 workers per city.

• Check F9 Demographics often.
• Stay near the top in soldiers.

I played my first game on Warlord the other day and had a space race victory and I never really had a particular strategy. I was the Romans and I took over the Incans with my UU at the start. After disposing of them I settled down and rebuilt the economy. I was right next to Saladin and Alex and I never went to war with them despite being about -5 on diplomacy with Alex. They never even started builidng spaceships after I finished mine.

It's also not even optimal - the real way to beat settler is to build lots of scouts and just pop new settlers from huts!

I played settler twice, for HoF purposes of course.

My advice would be:

Play a duel map vs. Mansa
Tech feudalism
Wait for Mansa to request to be your vassal
Conquest victory
