How to disable AVG

I recently put Microsoft Security Essentials on my computer and as I've heard that I shouldn't have several anti-virus programs running on my computer at once, I am trying to disable AVG. I don't however want to completely remove it as I would still like to be able to use it to once in a while scan for stuff Microsoft might have missed. I however can't figure out how to do this. Any suggestions? All I can find is how to temporarily disable AVG, not how to permanently disable it's real time protection.

I would suggest uninstalling it and reinstalling when you want to scan. Although Malwarebytes is far superior at doing that, imo.

Correct, you will want to completely remove it. Even simply having more than 1 antivirus can cause problems.
