I guess it is now official that a bad disk 2 causes the Catastrophic Error when trying to load Civ4
. Unfortunately, I got one of the bad disks when I bought the CD set last Monday (still no official notice on the Firaxis web site that the problem exists). Short of going to the retailer and trading the disks until I get a set that works (45 minutes each way, loading on a desktop PC, and no compatible laptop), is there a way to identify a good (or bad) disk 2 without having to attempt to load Civ4 and getting the dreaded message???
I am hopeful that there may be some similarities in good (or bad) disk 2's that can quickly weed out the bad ones, so I am starting a thread of disk 2 characteristics. I have seen other threads that imply that marking on the disk (Disk 2 vs. Disk 2/Play) or additional files on the disk may be indicators.
