It's been a few month i play civ3 n starting to feel bored..coz everytime u seem doing the same thing LOL..when is M/P coming out ? :(

Just change you civ, map size etc. Or try creating a scenario. Thats a challenge.

Forget Civ3, start playing STRIP CIV3 !!!

lol ......

more fun to play???

the wya that always works for me is MULTIPLAYER :(.

Other than multiplayer, try using maps that mean something to you, ie, world maps, maps of your country, historic maps, etc...

Or you could try drastically changing your strategy. For most people this could mean trying to win the game without ever using democracy or republic, or trying to win with a maximum (self-imposed) number of cities. I haven't gotten bored yet, and I have been playing since the day the game came out.

I may be completely wrong here...but the best way is probably to keep things small -for yourself that is...

Managing hundreds of workers will ruin enjoyment of the game for most people...so why bother?

Aiming at a mere 6 cities lets say you have the task of managing to produce enough research, have a decent enough military and a good enough economy to access strategic resources...it will be a challenge.

Playing on a world map and trying to recreate perhaps the British Empire or more realistically in keeping with the "keep it small and fun" recreate the Indian Empire or Chinese...I can confirm that Marla's map IS the best (Satya was promising but certain individuals took it in the wrong direction) and the rules that come with the mod do help keep the A.I from expanding everywhere.

If I ever put some work into making a worldmap properly suitable for gameplay I'd work FROM where Marla (and to some extend the "realistic civ starts" or "scipio") have left things.

HOPEFULLY when a standard sized world map that is as perfected as Marla's huge map is created then troubles of HUGE A.I empires and slower computers slowing to a near halt later on you may really have fun with recreating those empires I mentioned.

Otherwise playing in the CIVIII Game of the Month is a sure way to encourage you to take an interest in producing a successful civ!

Hope this helps :)

I'm surprised no one has come out with some Historical or Fantasy scenarios yet, as we had for Civ II.

What I did in Civ2 and what I'll do in Civ3 too is:

a) play on Earth Map
b)E.g. if you're indian, don't move out of the subcontinent with military, or have only border conflicts; don't conquer outside of your territory. (In Civ3 this can be maybe ruled out a bit, building one harbor somewhere and connect resources only by defended colonies.)
c) restrict your army growth, set a "cap level" of units, depending on how much you think is needed to play a hard game.
d) concentrate your army along the border and let wars break out from time to time. That's especially fun playing as romans with their long border...
e) break up the game when it gets too messed up late in the game (not when you're about to lose, that's part of the fun!)

I hope you don't mean the earth map supplied with game...

Nah, there are a few really good fan made maps I use.

thats because CIV III lacks scenario editor so no way to make em...

Yea. I know. ANOTHER problem with the game.

I would have thought somebody might have done some hacking by now or Firaxis come out with a suitable add-on.

I suppose Firaxis does not want us to do that so they can sell more Scenario CD's.

I think it is an absolute MUST, that they incorporate group movement. It's still hard to believe the game was created without this as a fundamental concept. Hopefully that's coming in the next patch.

I think that getting bored with a game after a while is inevitable. When the time comes it may just be best to take a break from it.

I played Civ 3 relentlessly for 6 weeks and had a great time with it. But delete day still came. As 2 to 3 weeks is my usual time to complete a game (with a few notable exceptions) I was more than happy with Civ3 in that regard.

I played enough to win all the different ways, tried out different Civs, map sizes etc. but the day still arrived when I realised that although I still enjoyed visiting this forum, figuring out the rules, etc I hadn’t actually played for over a week. It had finally all got a bit stale.

My solution was to delete Civ3 and reload the Age of Empires/AOK series. Wow! I thought – all over again – look at all those campaigns, scenarios, maps, etc. Doesn’t troop deployment and use look good. Look at the superb graphics for all the things that I can build. Gee look at that – no long wait while everybody moves each turn! Etc.

You see, I’ve now forgotten why I eventually also got bored with the AOE series (although I must admit it took a heck of a lot longer than 6 weeks) and deleted that too. Now it looks fresh again and I’ve forgotten what I did to win (one of the benefits of getting older!) and I can enjoy the whole experience again.

Maybe in a few months I can look at Civ3 again. And who knows, there might be some improvements by then. Someone might have figured out a way to Reveal Map, so that I can start half a dozen games and just pick the one that looks as if it might be interesting or unusual. They might have put out a scenario builder so that the button on the menu that says “Load Scenario” might have a genuine scenario to load not just a pretty ordinary world map. Or I might just have forgotten how to win with Culture, manage happiness, defeat corruption, and all the other stuff I enjoyed figuring out. Or I’ll look at the diplomacy options and think “Wow, that’s a step up from AOE”… Whatever.

But it’s goodbye Civ3 for now – thanks for all the fun.
:) :)

Next start I intend to limit my civ to a few cities, maybe 12, and see what happens. FUnny, that is what I intended to do this time. :D A funny thing happened along the way... With a good fertile land, I built up fast, and defined my territory quickly. But I grew too fast, I suppose They all declared war on me. Suddenly, I had 36 cities and half a continent. So I will try again.

The way to keep it fun is to face new challenges, and hard enough to make you work at it.

or u could try some of the mods out there? LWC mod changes that game quite a bit! ... but im sure u would winge about how crap it is .... or something ... im sure u would find something crap to complain about

and btw .... i think u have a wee little bit too high of a standard there .... though 6 weeks is a bit short .... there isnt anything in the world that u can do that wont get boring after a while ... just think having to make sweet love to claudia shiffer 10 to 12 times a day ... what a bore :p
