couldn't find this post anywhere so i had to start a new one...

usually when I take a city w/ 1 pop, it automatically gets raised. sometimes... it doesn't. i'd like to know how to tell when this will happen and when it won't please, so i won't have to wait around for a city to reach size two before taking it, only to find out that sometimes i could have just taken it regardless like 20 turns ago! thank you friends.

maybe it has something to do with what buildings are there? how do i know for sure what buildings count and which don't, and how to tell what buildings that city has before taking it?

Or if its cultural borders have ever expanded.

...maaaaybe it's if the city has gone from 0:culture: to 1:culture:. I know it's one or the other, I think it's border pops.

Look upon your log. Try to pinpoint the city foundation if you knew the civ from its very beginning. Look at its first ring culture. AI governor favors highest food tile. From that you can deduce at which point the city had reached size 2. For instance, working three :food: tile in the first ring means 8 turns of waiting since the foundation of the city if no anarchy happened or a barb unit occupied this sole highest tile. If you just met the AI, look the city list in the diplo table, the bottom cities in the city list are the most recent. The most recent are the most risky to be autorazed. Looking the infra graphics in the city can lead to some deductions. For instance, a monument is a indicator of a recent whipping. The odds of a chop that accelerated the monument over the next city size is quite low. It could be a unit, but whipped unit are emergency units and are whipped 2 tiles away of the threatened city. How to recognize the whipped unit: odds! The first(s) should have 25% fortification (if less, that is a great indicator of how recent the city is and an autorazing is 100% possible as defensive archer never leave the city), but the second low fortification to none! How to get fortification bonuses, hover the cursor on the unit. Unfortunately, you only get the highest defender fortication, but with some deductions, it happens to recognize a recent city. So, less fortification means better odds. It could be a recent joining archer, but we are working by elimination of cases. There always are special cases, but we work with the accessible info.

At last, I forgot to mention the only and only parameter neutralizing autorazing is such city getting size two once in its history. So, a city with a wonder (rushed by a GEngineer or mass chop) will autoraze if a wandering barb gets its lucky booty day. Culture is simply not a parameter.

Good luck.

I had the same intuition when I asked that question the first time, but in this case, intuition is wrong :)

City has to have been size 2 (or you have to play with no-city-razing on) . The log can tell you the date at which it was founded, and AI is almost always working the highest food tile, but Tachywaxon already said that :) .
