For me (and I suspect many people on this forum) the day of the release of Civ7 will be Feb. 6. I am wondering what you all will be doing to celebrate the games release. Do you have special traditions you do when a new Civ game comes out? Also, can someone please advise me on the adviseability or lack therof of playing hookie on the day of the release?
For example, I remember back in October 2014, a Youtuber said he was planning on consuming a bag of Spitz and drinking Mountain Dew to celebrate the release of Beyond Earth. I promptly did the same thing. Do you guys have similar or other kinds of unique celebrations/traditions you do?

The 6th is on a Thursday so I have to work. I plan to download it and check out only the intro/menu screen fully Thursday night. I also work Friday and plan to go out for dinner with my wife that evening. but Friday night I plan to start my first game. Monday, the 10th is my birthday so I took it and Tuesday off. So I have a 4 day weekend lined up to explore the game. Although I will probably have friends over for Saturday evening for a D&D session. It will be a good weekend for sure and I am looking forward to it. I am sure I will find myself watching movies in theme like Troy, Master and Commander, etc. for background ambiance.
My tradition is.... I play the bejeezus out of it. Special beverages or edibles are fine for watching a movie or something like that, but it gets in the way of playing a strategy game. "You should never drink and 4X."
If you have a reasonable employer, you can simply ask for the day off. If not, calling in sick isn't the end of the world. The key to calling in sick is being non-specific.
I'm self-employed, so while my employer is unreasonable, he's going to be playing Civ too.
I'll be driving back home from a road trip. Wondering right now what time the early access will be available and if I'll be home in time to pre-download before that or if I'll be catching up with all the other fanatics. Either way, I have that Friday off as well and plan on playing through the weekend.
For the first time, release of a civ game comes while I'm retired, so, to quote @AriochIV, I'll play the bejeezus out of it ;-)
On top of that, the founder edition was my b-day present from last september from my wife, so she KNOWS I'm simply ex-communicado for a few days after release
I’m unfortunately working twelve hours long night shifts on the 5th into the 6th and the 6th into the 7th. I’ll play as much as I possibly can in between, substituting sleep with monster energy drinks. I’d play that weekend, but I’m helping to organize a Ball in Manhattan, with prep starting on Saturday morning and the last of the festivities going until Sunday evening. As such, I most likely won’t finish my first full game until about the Wednesday after release
I've pre-ordered Founders, so I will hve early access. It's a Thursday and I will be WFH, which will allow me to start the download ASAP and begin playing immediately after I'm done working.

I might try and play it on the 7th, if I have time available. That weekend is my birthday weekend, so I've asked my wife and kids if I could celebrate by staying home and just playing Civ all weekend. So far nothing else is planned, hopefully it stays that way.

I have finals on Wednesday, work on Friday, and Civ releases on Thursday in the evening for me. Saturday I have a day spent with my SO and a good friend (who loves Civ), but I think I'll have to postpone my first game until Sunday. I promised myself to get something nice to eat and drink and then it's going to be wake up early, switch on game, play said game, sleep.

I only bought the standard edition, in protest against the very notion of different editions, that'll teach 'em!
11th is a regular day at work but I have the 12th off. I'll be playing late into the night on the 11th, with a friend, then I'll grab a few hours and get back to it whilst the kids are at school.
I won't be celebrating, as I'm on a work trip from the 5th to the 10th that probably won't leave much time to play. Maybe I can get one or two hours in the hotel, provided the internet speed is sufficient to download the game. But maybe this isn't the way I want to start into civ VII and I'll wait until I'm home and have a time window in which I can play a full age. I'll see if I can abstain that long...
I'll be working so I'll likely not have time to start a game, will depend on how successful any pre-loading/installing works; I'll either start a game, or just browse through the Civlopedia.
In terms of celebrations , maybe I'll listen to Baba Yetu on a loop all day, have a scotch at night, and toast to Sid, Ed and all the devs.
