How would the AI handle this...???

I am thinking about a settler-type unit which is also a flag unit. The idea comes from a sci-fi type scenario where civs can only settle a planet if the have the correct "resources". If there are various flag units on these uncolonized lands/planets then one units would go in and "capture" the unit to simulate gathering up the materials available in the area.

I like the idea of the flag unit to make civs fight over them, but I figure the AI would never actually use them to settle. Would this be correct? I would like to test this, but in trying to make even just Flag Unit Only units, I can't seem to get it so that other units can pick them up. I tried looking at the Conquests scenarios such AoD or Middle Ages, but I still can't get flag units to be able to be picked up. The only thing I haven't tried was actually placing the VP locations on the map, but shouldn't matter should it?

Anyway, I would like this settler unit, whether it's a flag unit or not-- I would like them to pop up from goody huts as barbs. Or at least have a bard unit with an attack value for hostile barbs, but one could have a special scout unit which would "enslave" the barb unit into a that resource-settler unit. I just think a flag unit tag might make things more strategic.

Any thought?

I don't know if this applies to the settler flag like it did for the terraform one, but when I tried making a worker who wouldn't run away when enemies come near (I gave it attack and defence) I had to use another flag with it. But if you assign a second flag to a unit, the terraform one doesn't work, therefore none of the automate worker commands work.
I think that came out right...

Not quite accurate. When different flags are set for a unit, when the AI builds one it "chooses" which use (which flag) the unit will be assigned.

by VL , you meant Vicotry Location, I assume? That is what I thought to try too.

@Derf. I have some untis with terraform and attack and defense. True, the AI might not use them to terraform. Although, it does use some of these units to build things like radar towers and such. They also use attack/defense/artillery units with the settle capability to settle cities as well.

It shouldn't work. Either you will have to set it to "immobile", without the "load" flag to make it act like a flag unit, or not "immobile", but with the "load" flag to act as a Settler.

I can't even get them to act as flag units.

I have tried adding VPLs, and in scenario properties adding capture the unit (did that long ago) and now I tried the VP Locations in the games types too.

I can't make it so my guys can pick up the flag units.......is that the problem? I have more than one flag unit? Should there only be one for the entire game? I would not think so in looking at the MA Conquest scenario.

hmmmm:confused:

D'oh! Thanks...I remember seeing that there another time, but just forgot about it. Seems weird that without clicking it...no one can pick up anything! Thanks!

Now I will experiment with the settler flag unit and see what happens.
