How would you proceed?

Playing as Elizabeth of England, standard Hemispheres map on Monarch with Legends of Revolutions mod. Initial scouting shows I may be isolated; my warrior stumbled onto a hostile village and got taken out before I could confirm. Therefore I am researching archery to protect myself against the inevitable barbarian rush. I settled York on the river to get a lot of cottages down and benefit from my financial trait.

I got masonry from a tribal village; would you be tempted to go for Great Wall in this instance? Lots of barbarian spawning area around...

I’m not familiar with the Mod you’re using, but assuming things are fairly normal...

reasons in favour of TGW:
- free masonry
- lots of land for barbs to spawn in and potentially no AI for them to attack


reasons against TGW
- no stone
- not industrious
- already researched archery
- if isolated, great spy is bad
- if isolated, barbs won’t harass other AIs

based on above, I probably wouldn’t embark on TGW now. If you want to improve your barb defence you can look up the concept of ‘fog busting’ but generally with archers you’ll be ok!

These were my thoughts as well. Plus, there's copper and rice to the east. I can settle there and create some axemen as a better defence.

I agree with Nick. Plus, it's not like you have a ton of food; you may want to save the forests for chopping other things, since whip options are limited.
