How would you respond to this situation?

You are a civilian, a relatively tough guy who can handle a fight. You are carrying a camera, a knife, a tearing gas bomb (you know, the kind of spray that a woman can hide in her handbag, apparently it's called pepper spray).

You are walking in a desert street, not to far of two defenseless ladies carying their handbags.

Suddently, two thugs armed with knife assault the ladies. One is stabbed, injured, perhaps lethaly. The other start to run, the two thugs chase after her, they are faster and she can't escape. But you are in a position to intercept them. But they have not spotted you yet.

There is no one else in the area. No police officer... What do you do?

- You run away,
- You shout and try to frighten the thugs so they flee,
- You take pictures so you can bring evidence to the police and they can be charge later with two murders, but you let the guys catch and kill the woman,
- You use your tear gas bomb to incapacitate them and stop their assault without serious damage to them
- You fight them with your knife, knowing you can wound or even kill them.

You can do one of this thing only. Of course, you could take pictures as evidence and then fight them. In that case just vote fight. The picture option is if you do only that, and don't try to stop the thugs.

but if I were on a street with a gasbomb I'd probably be either:
- a military courrier
- a terrorist
- a terrorists aid
- friend of those thugs
- a soldier left from a whole battalion armed with gas bombs and knives
or
a random person who likes to walk around with strange stuff


Honestly, Steph, if thugs were to assault someone and chaise someone else I would not care much for their safety only to save myself from the presecution

Going into a knife vs. knife fight is... not a good idea. In fact it is one of the worst ideas in the history of ideas, somewhere on the same level as invading Russia, and only marginally better than trying to fight a knife guy unarmed. Even with prompt access to modern emergency medicine.

If I had a better weapon than a knife, I might use that instead. But knife vs. knife? Only if the alternative was to stand there and let a guy stab me.

I would recognize the rights of the "thugs" to kill and eat the tasty old ladies. There are plenty of old ladies in the world and eating a few won't threaten their populations. The people who made the laws against killing the old ladies were irrational and basing their judgement on outdated biases.

Don't be obtuse. Clearly my statement was a satirical response to your transparent attempt in this thread to justify the Sea Shepherd's use of violence against the Japanese whalers.

If you want a serious response to your question: I would help the old ladies with the tear gas or knife because I place a much higher value on human life than whale life, and I recognize the authority and the good sense of the people who made the laws declaring murder of old ladies illegal.

Do you want to try again with a new hypothetical that actually resembles the Sea Shepherd situation?

CS grenade would do me little good without a gas mask. If I had a pepper spray on the other hand, I'd try to surprise one or both with a good shot to the eyes (even if it meant letting them catch the woman, but hopefully before they got to the stabbing bit), and then I would proceed to beat the living bajesus out of them.

I don't mean so they'd learn a lesson, I would beat them for everything that has gone wrong in my life. I'd work out some serious issues, on their asses.

But, I would not stab them. Blunt force trauma is just as dangerous though.
