Ohh, the white building was storing grain?

Ya, finely ground flour can make a huge explosion sure.

I can't believe anyone would store that many fireworks near a huge grain storage building in a major city.

We put rocket fuel factories in the desert for a reason!

Fireworks being unloaded caught fire and ignited fertiliser/salt pewter.

Yeah, that looks like a nightmare.

At first blush, I'm reminded of the explosion in Halifax harbor in 1917.

Fertilizer would make more sense than flour.
    It was awfully big boom.

Lots of Cypriots saying that they felt the explosions. Beirut port is completely destroyed along with reportedly a great deal of supplies and medicine.

Norwegian news says ammonium nitrate, not sodium nitrate.

according to wiki the Murrah building was destroyed by 5,000 lbs of the stuff, that blast looks much bigger

from what I understand grain elevators common in farming country need to be well ventilated or the fumes given off by the grain can ignite

Before this blast Lebanon was already in a complete melt down.
Beirut for example having only a couple of hours per day electricity..

I hear that it is about a big batch of Ammonium Nitrate confiscated by port-border authorities in 2014.

Apparently simply stored away (in a hurry, no clear safety procedures ???)... and never sold to get rid of it (perhaps because of legal disputes ??? perhaps some civil servants saw opportunitiers to sell it themselves ???).

it is a Mediterranean thing . Greek Cypriots confiscated 3 000 tons of lranian powder , they were gaining in volume to make their containers bulge . Would have been so convenient to destroy half and ship out half but the explosion did no good to that port and they even had to take electricity or something from the North .

They said on the telly that ISIS claimed responsibility. They did not sound convinced.

Generally dust, but yes they can explode. This looks way too big even at first glance. The fertilizer stockpile thing makes more sense.

The explosion is said to not be of fireworks (which wouldn't cause this mayhem in the first place) but ammo/guns.
Israel officially denied playing any part of this, but who knows - if that depot had Hezbollah weapons it wouldn't be above Israel to do such a thing.

Do you even think before posting this crap? :shake:

Didn’t you know it was the Greeks’ fault? I read about it in The Protocols of the Elders of Athens.
