Right lads,

I normally play on a standard map but want to try a huge one. Any tips for me. I play on Monarch/Emperor. How many cities should I be founding? You know Q's like that.

Found as many cities as you can. When they are entirely corrupt, make them specialist farms.

QFT!

Actually, the answer is the same for all map sizes.

The hard-coded maximum for the entire map is 512! Think about that!

When you win by domination victory, or barely not, you probably have enough.

You want to found as many as you can an dcapture as many as you can. do not worry about corruption. If they are corrupt let them do something useful and add to your support.

They can make workers, bombardment units and eventually specialist, think beakerheads. The more land you control the less there is for the AI.

You should not have city limit issues on a huge map (160x160, even with max civs. If you move up to 31 civs on 250x250, then you will have city limit issues. On that size you should get to 300-400 cities, depending on the victory conditions.

Some things I suggest would be raising the optimal city number to shut down corruption (knock it down hard but not out)

Also raisin the tech rate a bit so AI civs aren't tradin techs fast and furious. I also say going large means more cities putting out more culture . Its smart to raise the VC Cultural goal for combined cities. Some games a Civ on another continent will explode cultually with so much land to settle he'll be off limits to attack and it'll be to late for a comeback.
I'd raise that limit 50% remembering they still have to beat you by 50% That Xtra time gives everyone a chance to roll out Culture production for at least one CIv to get where they can meet the quota.

Ya dem da rules I speak of changing. So thanks, I was way of base then. Im forgeting Game of the Month or regular game HOF scores needs 'no rule changes' to go in effect.

I guess I can't offer any tips on the way it plays 'fresh out of tha box'.
Ive always stuck to playing Civ3 on differant game board. I Call it The 3rd expansion: Civ3 Redefined Balanced n' Reloaded'
Basicly, 'Huge' maps need huge amounts of helpful additons that cure increased amounts of gameplay aillments. I won't say more then that 'cept the fact it ain't good to goon loading without em.

Settler factories are a necessity as you move up in levels. Check out Bamspeedy's article Babylon's Deity Settlers in the War Academy for a tutorial.

It takes a bit of practice to get it right but it can be done.
