I posted this in the suggestions section but didn't get any responses so....

I don't know if this has been suggested already or if it is even possible but i think you should allow the human player to become a vassal state under certain circumstances, for example with the european trading companies when you are about to be invaded by a european nation there should be an option to become a colony of the nation rather than face an invasion, this would allow the player to experience the historical events of becoming a colony and later declaring independence. So when playing nations like Indonesia, the Congo or India you would have the opportunity to experience the historical colonization and also benefit from European protection and technology. Eventually you could create an event that would allow you to declare your independence at the historical date, like the 1940s for India and Indonesia or 1960s for Congo, or you could declare independence the usual way which i think is by refusing tribute? Also when playing as the Aztec or Inca instead of being invaded you could choose to capitulate to the nation such as Spain, not that withstanding invasion is all that difficult but i think it would be interesting and more historical to experience time as a european colony, and also allow the other nation's religion to spread in your cities.
Also if you are going to add American civs like Brazil, Canada and Argentina than they could spawn earlier as vassal states of their mother nations. Being from Canada i think it would be interesting being able to start out around the same time as the USA, but as a colony of Britain, and then get the option to declare independence (which we did peacefully) in 1867 or around there.
Anyways i think this would add a whole other aspect of the game to the human player as being able to become a colony and declare independence later on which would be more interesting and historical than fighting off a giant stack of European invaders, unless you prefer that.

If this were to be implemented, it would be really flippin neat if it were, than the AI should be programmed to demand just about all resources from their african/asian colonies. Making the whole european protection thing not totally one sided.

It'd be an interest suggestion worth at least pondering about but I wonder if it is in fact doable..
By the way, welcome to the Forums!

It's possible to vassalize yourself to another civ. SoI did it.
AFAIK there were already suggestion like this loooooooongg time ago and Leo already responded.

It could work with a few UHV's, I guess. Indonesia from 1500 to 1900 or whenever it ends could well be played as a vassal.

I once made myself a vassal in the vanilla 1000 AD scenario by WB. I played as the Aztecs and vassalized myself to the first European civ that I met. That was France.

In general, it was a game like most other. I did lost many of my resources, because France demanded them. (Even though I had only one of them and IIRC, they even demanded a single type of resource several times) However, I did get many techs from France.

I could settle most of North America (not having to bother an American spawn). After some time, I though I was strong enough to declare independence (with the help of France themselves by giving me many techs, so my tech wasn't actually realy far behind), so I refused a demanded resource and France declared war on me.

France did have some colonies, but I was stronger in North America, so I could win the war there. If I also had to fight in Europe I think I would have lost. As France was still stronger (but not in North America), I could sign peace with giving them some gold.

I grew stronger and if I wanted, I could take France in Europe. The student beats it's master.
(Now I'm thinking of it, I should have tried to vassalize France. That would have been ironical)

After all, it was a very funny game. I think it would be great if something similar was possible in DoC. (Without having to use the WB)

I'd like to see this too, although maybe there should be some limits put on who the human can declare war on, be a bit unfair if your vassal was France and you declared war on Britain, Spain and Germany to get them destroyed while you lived on the other side of the world

Exactly my problem with this suggestion.

You better capitulate yourself before you wreck yourself...

...Wait, really, can you do that?

Yeah. I think you could be a vassal the normal way in warlords, but other than that, you can force capitulate. It's not too exciting. You just get resource demands a lot.

Nope, the human can't vassalize either in warlords or BTS.
Enabling human vassalization is a matter of removing a "if human, then forbid" line in the SDK code.
