Humanitarian Victory, Multilateral Diplomacy and the Late Game

    Suggestion flowing forth from several ideas already presented in this thread:

    Global projects

    Certain existing and new projects are now built by a global production effort. This means that every civilization can sink production in it, and it is built when the accumulated production hits a threshold (the production cost).

    The main effect of these buildings/wonders is global, but the civilization which contributes the most gets a bonus in its capital.

    The Rights of Man.

    Requires Constitution
    +1 :mad: in every city of civilizations which use slaves
    +1 :) in every city
    +1 :health: in every city
    +25% GPP

    Builders' bonus:
    +2 Great Statesman GPP
    Unhappy citizens in this city produce +1 :food:

    The United Nations

    Requires Mass Media
    Starts global elections
    Gives a worldwide +1 relations boost between members

    Builders' bonus:
    Candidate in every election
    Foreign culture and heathen religions do not cause unhappiness

    The International Space Station

    Requires Satellites
    +10% :science:
    +25% Spaceship production

    Builders' bonus
    +3 :)
    + 25% Spaceship production

    Human Genome project

    Requires Genetics
    +2 :health: (Base Genetics boost gets nerfed)
    +5% :science:

    Builders' bonus
    No :yuck: in this city

    These projects could be easily coupled to the Humanitarian victory (invest x hammers in global projects, build at least one of them).

    I have an idea for a modern-age victory condition.

    Nation Name for Nationality Name (e.g. France for the French, Germany for the Germans, Italy for the Italians, America for the Americans, Sweden for the Swedes, etc)

    If, any time after 1950, a nation that:
    a. Has foreign ethnicities making up at least 20% of the population (e.g. Frankfort is pop 10 and 60% German 40% Turk and Koenigsberg is pop 8 and 100% German and Berlin is pop 12 and 75% German 25% Turk Hamburg is pop 10 and 90% German 10% Turk, so the overall is pop 40 and 32 Germans, 8 Turks, or 80% German and 20% Turks)
    b. Has discovered nationalism

    Is able to remove the foreign ethnicities and become 100% ethnically pure, they can win a victory.

    This would require 2 new mechanics
    1. Ethnic Purification: All foreigners are sent back to their home countries, this is more expensive then
    2. Elimination of Foreigners: All foreigners are killed. This is less expensive, but causes a relations hit with the home nations of the foreigners.

    Why would we want a victory condition about ethnic cleansing? I think the point of this thread is to produce a humanitarian victory, not a dystopian one.

    Sounds... horrible. Why not better give some extra culture points to the most cosmopolitan (I mean ethnically-diverse) city in the world?

    Civ4 cultural percentage of people in a city is implausible and not really represents ethnic minorities well, with the possible exception of the USA with their UP.

    I'm not endorsing ethnic cleansing in real life, I just thought that having some "not-nice" victory types would be fun. It wasn't intended as a jab at any nationality or ethnicity.

    They are Turks, not "Germans of Turkish origin", for the same reason that me living in America does not make me a "Native American of Irish origin".

    We already have a "not-nice" victory: Domination. Many UHVs qualify as "not nice" too. And it's not just victories - usually, the best way to play is to be "not nice." Conquering cities, genociding populations, suppressing cultures, and doing shady realpolitik are all involved when you make a superpower.

    What Leoreth is doing right now is the opposite of that - to go away from our current "conquer and kill" paradigm by adding humanitarian goals and features. What you're doing is taking that paradigm to a fairly scary extreme.
