Hut results

What determines hut results? I play A LOT of multi-player games with my kids and we started keeping track of hut results because it seemed like they always get great results while I seem to get #$%@#.

We regularly play Earth 18 Civs so the hut locations are know and encountered at pretty much the same point in the games.

I get 65% gold, 20% maps, 10% barbs, and the occasional tech, settler or worker.

The kids as a group get 60%+ settlers and workers! What is up with that?

Most of the time I "host" the game on my machine but it doesn't seem to affect the outcome if on of the other machines is the host.

the difficulty level changes the hut results. You can get settlers and workers on settings below Noble. Noble and above, no settlers or workers. Popping with scouts or explorers also means no bad results (ie barbarians).

Well it's purely chance. Don't know the actual percentages though. Just pick a Civ that starts with Hunting, if you care so much about it.
Scouts get very good rewards usually.

Except when my capital is soaked in forests, I will normally research Hunting before Mining/Bronze Working and build a scout ASAP, before my first worker. There was I time when I got both Bronze Working and Iron Working from scouts, so I could build swordsman as my first units.

I doubt it - I don't think the results are that good on settler.

If i recall correctly, scouts will always get positive hut results. also, as you go up in difficulty, you no longer get settlers/workers from huts; but playing monarch/emporer it does not seem that the negative result chances raise as you go up in difficulty but it could.

so when you set up, if you set yourself to prince, and your kids to settler, they may be actually getting better chances... or they could be exploring with scouts due to their civ choices...

just a thought

It's in an xml file labeled "Handicap.xml" in the GameInfo folder under Assets\XML. It defines the sort of prizes you can get. (E.g., gold, scout, warrior, tech, etc.) So if you don't want to get techs from huts, change it to something else here.

Specific rewards are defined in Goodyinfo.xml. Here, you can mod it so the "scout" reward gives an explorer or "warrior" gives an axeman, feel free.

(Though be warned: the computer player can get the same rewards so if you want an army of lvl 1 axemen converging on your fledgling civ early in the game then it's your funeral.) ;)

In my experience:

The higher the difficulty level, the more likely you'll see the negative or less favorable outcomes. Levels higher than noble don't give you settler/worker any more.

Scout, cultural border expansion, and probably worker/settler (don't know about that, but I've never seen a worker pops those hostile barbs, in fact, one time I tried using fast worker as a scout when the wolves/panthers disappear and it works well) always give positive results.

The difference between cultural border expansion and scout popping is the former does not lead to the experience and healing options. There is a marginally higher chance of popping the free tech (but also more chance of popping the stupid map).

To the OP, maybe your kids use scouts and cultural border expansion more and you use warriors more? As long as both play on the same level the outcome odds split should be the same.

Each time you get a goody hut, one of the possible options is selected randomly, while the chance of an option beeing selected is proportional to the amount of time the option is written.
The options GOODY_BARBARIANS_STRONG & GOODY_BARBARIANS_WEAK are invalid if the hut is popped by a scout, explorer or cultural boarders.
The options GOODY_EXPERIENCE & GOODY_HEALING are invalid if the hut is popped by cultural boarders.

Could a fully healed unit get Healing from a goodie hut? Or is the program set to subtitute another random result?

I don't think a fully healed unit will get the Healing result. I had played several games with no barbarians option on and not once had I popped Healing from goody huts.
