    Spoiler :

16 riverside, including 2 riverside plains hills with gold

If this weren't my first shot at monarch, I'd be tempted to try a new map

I'd love to see other ridiculous starts, so post away and we can see if anyone has me beat!

Wow, and 7(?) of those 16 are flood plain.

From a game a few days ago, random leaders, standard size, epic speed, emperor difficulty, raging barbs.

    Turn 1:
All right, good leader, dry corn, and cow, but nothing spectacular. Well guess I'll just settle in place.

    Spoiler :

    Turn 2:
    Oh, stone! Cool!

    Hey look a goodie hut!

    Spoiler :

Well I just had my strategy defined for me. :mwaha:

While Berlin itself isn't the best (originally Pigs, Horse and 3 FP, copper popped later), you could say I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the largest flood plain I've ever seen. There's more to the south, couldn't fit it all in one screenshot. It totals at over 30 tiles of pristine flood plain. I have a gut feeling that this is going to be my fastest space win on immortal to date.

Sometimes there is too much of a good thing. Is that start going to be able to work all those delicious FP with all the :yuck: ? I remember someone posting a start that was so loaded on FP, no growth was possible in the settle-in-place. Must have been a higher difficulty than monarch.

Jesus christ! Get in the car!

    :goodjob:

An image would've worked well with that.

    It's random/standard size/fractal

I'll check if I kept a starting save, but I'm running a mod so I'm not sure if I can post a regular save. I'll try though :goodjob:

Oh, and I'm not moving my settler/worker there without scouting the area, just thinking about where to set up :p

well, you did say rediculous, so:

    Spoiler :
    Yay!

Wait a minute... something fishy going on here...

    D'OH!

    EDIT -- @ TCMIV:

If you had settled one tile east of current Athens, you would've had only one non-riverside tile :D

Yea, I think the gold/cows make it worth it though :)

Edit: Did you play out that game? I'd probably just call it quits if I saw all that tundra

That IS a great location. Although you'll have a hard time working the golds until at least size 5+, since you don't have a 5 or 6 :food: tile in the BFC. Fortunately you have forests to mitigate the FP unhappiness.

Nonetheless I haven't had a start that good in a long long time.

These things just happen from time to time.
I had a start just today, let me dig up the save...

    Here it is:
    1 x Fish
    2 x Clam
    1 x Pigs

And you can't see it yet but there is also iron on one of those hills.

Looks good, although you may need to sail a long way to harvest those Fish...

Yeah I agree the gold/cows would make up for it. You could consider putting another city to use those, though, since with all that FP Athens really doesn't need the food (although I guess growth might stagnate if you didn't have some serious :health: resources nearby).

Didn't play it but I kept the 4000bc save. I might make an OCC out of it or something. Its terra too, so I could possibly look into heading for the New World and out of that tundra hell :p

And rarely you end up with something that just makes you scratch your head, like getting 4 marble inside the city squares, but no coal, iron, or oil.

The start I had today, I had 3 irrigated plain gold hills, a corn, and a plains cow, with a bunch of riverside grassland tiles. I decided to play it out.

a 7 FP city can still grow especially if you have health resources like that cow.

IMO 7FP is the optimal number, two of them are "free" as 5, 6 and 7 FPs give 2 unhealthiness. 8 already gives 3 unhealthiness which can be annoying at the beginning if you're not swamped in forests otherwise.
