I am disappointed in Firaxis and feel betrayed By Elizabeth/Greg

No ability to save multiplayer games. No wonder why they wouldn't allow us to talk about multiplayer during the livecast. No wonder they said "there's a lot of MP info coming up" that never materialized. Oh well. Guess I can shelve it for a few months until they patch and release the game we should have gotten immediately.

The multiplayer is really trashy right now, I can't believe it. Totally unfinished.

Bare bones server browser. Can't tell if game is JIP or a lobby full of people struggling to ready up and launch.

I want the option to have animations. I need it! The game is stale without them.

First game I actually got in and I CTD'd after my first move.

I think it's safe to say MP is currently broken. It's utterly useless the way it is now and needs some major updates pronto!

Animations slow down everyone else. NO!

Simply autosaving isn't good enough, but that's better than what I thought it was.

:old: Back when I first got into Civ, you had to wait a year and pay $30 more to get multiplayer. Now it's included in the cost of the game and will probably be performing decently after a couple patches.

Turning off animations was one of the first things everyone else in the first game I joined told me in multiplayer Civ4. And not without reason.

First time using :old:... guess I'm aging.

It autosaves - just set it to autosave every turn.

That's fantastic. But what if you have a bunch of friends who play and have multiple games going because not everyone is around at the same time?

Doesn't excuse the fact that if we weren't deliberately misled we were definitely lied to by omission.

Ah the old multiplayer is not working, but don't worry it will be out in a patch. Didn't we get this in Civ III?

Oh well, hope you guys are all happy, everything will be fixed and patched later on. If this is the case why are people complaining then? Sorry for rant.

Yes I feel betrayed as well. Being told I would have no problems running the game with my specs, and I have nothing but problems.

And Civ IV... People sure have short (read nonexistent) memories.

Ah the new Civ tradition. Buy game now, patch multiplayer later. Oh well so much or the game being playable on release day.

Multiplayer is having teething issues, but it isn't 'broken'. I played 3-4 hours straight in a game with 3 other friends with no trouble at all.

While Multiplayer has it's issues(no direct saving, animations not there) it is fun, I have loved every bit of Civilization V I have played today since it's release(been hooked for that many hours yes lol) it's midnight here aswell.

Just played a 5 hour multiplayer session. It was smooth as butter.

Tscht, in that case it's BETTER by far than Civ IV was on release. I remember the horrors of trying to even connect to anyone and all the BS I had to go and learn about port forwarding (oh holy god whyyyyy).

To be honest, I had fewer problems with Civ 5 (Once we learned how to set up a private game) than I did trying to get our Civ 4 (BTS 1.19) games working. Less lag, no desyncs, no disconnections. The worst we got were a couple of automatic reloads that didn't seem to affect anything. I guess instead of going all 'desync', it reloads from the autosave?

I played a 3 hour multiplayer game tonight. It wasn't great, but it worked. It'll get better in a patch or two. Past Civs were the same way - I prefer it's out now so I can play it and let the polish come later.

Betrayed? Lied to? Calm down, sparky. This is a video game.

I don't care if it is a game. It is a product that I paid for. Doesn't matter whether it's a game, food, or shampoo. A company has a responsibility to its customers. When you deliberately hold back certain information that you know of so that it doesn't negatively affect sales that's lying to your customer. In the financial world it's actually criminal. If you hold back information from investors that you know of you can get jail time and fines. If you know of defects in a house and sell it without disclosing them, same thing. I'm not saying Civ 5 is a crap game, or that Firaxis is a crap company.

I was really excited by the information they were giving us and how they did the live stream and answered questions. It came across as being far more open and responsive to the community then any developers have before. Then I find out that the reason they "forgot" to talk about multiplayer like they promised was because they knew there were some fairly major flaws. Hence my feeling of "betrayal".

That being said multiplayer is working fine. The issue is that since I have so many people who want to play multiplayer but are only available at different times I need multiple save games. Say you have 4 people you play with. Sometimes you play 1v1 with each of them then there's various combinations of 3 or 4 or 5 players all requiring different saves. I'm not sure HOW many auto saves it keeps. Is it going to erase saved games with other friends if I start a new one?

This is a fairly major problem and if you don't see it then you are sadly jaded by poor releases from other companies to be ok with this. At least Settlers 7 announced that there would be no saving in multiplayer BEFORE people bought the game. Keep in mind too that Settler 7 games take maybe 2-4 hours depending on settings not 4-200 like civ.

Hey think yourselves lucky. Go try playing a game of Elemental: War of Magic multi-player. Oh what? You can't? They haven't even turned it on even though it was a big selling point? ;)

At least you got MP on launch. :D

MP is turned on. Some days you can even play with the devs. MP was never a declared selling point for Elemental. The devs clearly stated pre-release that the game was single player focused. At one point MP wasn't even going to be a part of the game. Some people wanted it, and so it is being included. As with all other aspects of the game, the devs are working with the fans to evolve the game.

Sounds like they're trying to give a shout-out to all those CivIII fans out there (with it's non-existent MP in vanilla)

But seriously even though I've never played multiplayer with Civ (only Alpha Centauri way back when) if they said they were going to add it, then it should be just as full-featured as the single player game. Very disappointing: they've had plenty of time
