I am removed from my friend's hosted game between turns 56 and 57.

My friend and I to-day tried to play a multi-player game of Civ V
together. When we are able to start a game together (I as Germany,
he as China or Japan), everything proceeds fine until the change
between turns 56 and 57. Then, the game (hosted on my friend's
server) makes it appear from my perspective that my friend has
disconnected, leaving me the only human player in the game. From
my friend's perspective, I have been kicked from the server.
We've tried this in two games (one Standard-sized, one Duel) and
it happened both times.

Also, his invitations only work some of the time; once, my screen froze
on "Configuring Game Data" and did nothing; twice, it appeared from
my friend's side that I was able to join his server when from my side
I receive the message 'Error joining multiplayer' and stay on the
main menu. Neither of us run any mods, and we both use Windows 7.
What is happening here? How can we fix it and play a game that
doesn't malfunction critically like this in the Iron Age?

Edit: Suspecting these problems are due to my own connection,
I went to another building's WiFi and used theirs. I connected to the
game without a problem and the turn 56/57 problem did not occur.
(This game had a Small map with three civs - I as Germany, my friend
as China, and Atilla as a randomly-chosen A.I.) I've confirmed now
apparently the problem lies in my own connection... but what?
