No, this is not some sort of bad joke. I wake up one day, and poof, no connection. I figure it's just some wiring problem so I check, and everything's fine. I just leave it for a while.
But now, two days later, it's still not connected. I have a cable modem and the only thing that responds when I ping it is my IP address. When I try to use the automated repair feature of windows, it gives me an error message saying "unable to flush the ARP cache". I have no idea what that means. (Also, when I use the command prompt thing, instead of just the usual "C:" to start the line, I get "C:Documents and Settings/Me")
I'm not sure what information would be necessary here, so I'll leave it at that.
