Why I deleted is a long story (I changed the system clock and a file was somehow created -- well that and like 20 other files that I deleted -- with a time stamp that was years in the future which might interfere with my disk defragmentation software)
But was it safe to delete? Or should I format and reinstall everything?
The name of the file just seemed like a bunch of random characters but the OS (XP professional) warned me that it was a sytem file.
I also deleted like 20 other files with time stamps for creation and/or modification years in the future ... but these seemed safe to delete (they were not system files)
I also found a couple files in an .cab file that had time stamps a couple years in the future -- these came with the computer so I don't get why that is
Any light on any of these matters. Most grateful
