When I play WtP it it gets hard for me to manage. I just saved and left a game because I was tired of working so hard and felt I couldn't keep up. I keep a spreadsheet of who needs what and what to do next on a second screen to reduce blunders and omitted opportunities. I play on huge, because I like exploring, and with NO other Europeans because I like peace.

Any comments? Ideas on how to handle how HARD the game is? I have to balance time to rest up against time to refamiliarize myself. Do you experience the same problem? (I'm a very old guy, that explains part of my issue. I am somewhat intelligent tho, if I do say so.)

For many players the appeal of We the People is that it's as hard as you want to make it.

You say you like exploring. I'd use the scout opening. Playing Portugal is easiest but it works for any colonial power. Settle next to a coast tile (not shallow coast) with food and wood. Put your settler to work cutting wood and start building the village hall. The second settler dismounts and cuts more wood.

Once you have enough wood to build the Village Hall, move the settlers to the workshop to finish it in three or four turns. That done, put one settler into the hall to collecting liberty bells. That should make you first to get founding father Jacques Marquette. The second settler can mount up and head for the nearest Native village to talk to the chief, get a bit of gold and maybe learn a specialty.

Now you have a Seasoned Scout ready to explore, maybe two if you're Portugal or if Seasoned Scout was the specialty in the Native village.

Back in the your colony build up ocean access: pier and dock to start. By now your ship should be back with a couple of helpful new immigrants to putter around at home developing the handiest raw material along with a few social amenities. You're ready now to explore on land and sea.

There are other paths to progress in the game but, at first, it helps to keep it simple.

Look into the automation system - you can arrange your transport units to move cargo between your towns automatically, also once you build Custom House all excess goods are sold automatically and there´s no need to ship everything manually to Europe..
It`s a bit awkward to set up and sometimes doesn´t work as intended :P
But you should start playing around with it, once you have a couple of towns and there´s yet not that much goods, it´s easier to arrange and observe it in action.
