Tried just out of curiosity a quick OCC game vs a Immortal AI on a small map to check out the new "Unrestricted Leader" feature.

After exploring a little it turns out im on the same continent as Tokugawa of the Native Americans. A few turns later he completes stonehenge.

Needless to say, he declared war shortly after, and pumping out archers with Drill I, Drill II, Drill III and City Garrison I, i found out i really didnt stand a chance

At least i figured there can be lots of nasty leader / civ combinations if you ever play such games. (Im gonna stick to the good old Custom Games where i choose the other Civ's and leaders pre-gamestart).

A terrible choice for OCC...! Imp is useless as you can't build Settlers and won't want to do much Warmongering anyway. Elizabeth would have been a much better choice.

Toku is quickly becoming my least-favorite leader. Maybe because he keeps showing up in my games (I nearly always play with random opponents) like a little black cloud of surliness, refusing to open borders to take on religions, continuing to be cautious or annoyed despite good trades or even gifts...

OMG! I'm a Victoria fan too. But why would you play OCC with her. Imperialistic is virtually useless.

But in normal games, she rules.

On a related note, who do people rate as the #1 leader/civ for OCC? Some traits are quite obviously useless (Imperialistic being an obvious one; also Creative and Organised are pretty pointless when you only have one city). Aggressive I don't really see as being particularly useful either, leaving only Phil, Ind, Fin, Pro & Spi. I'd also be inclined to steer away from any culture-related UB as you'll have stacks of culture anyway (and can never get a Cultural victory), and obviously maintanence reducing buildings are no real good as your maintanence will be virtually nil anyway.

Unrestricted Leaders aside, I'd rate Elizabeth as the best choice: Phi/Fin is a solid economic combo, the UU is a defensive one and the UB gives extra gold which is obviously useful. Gandhi is OK too (Phi/Spi). Huayna Capac (Ind/Fin) has good traits but I don't think his UU or UB come anywhere near the English ones in terms of usefulness in the OCC context.

With Unrestricted Leaders, I'd lean towards Huayna Capac or Elizabeth of Rome. Extra GPP.

Hehe yes i know, i chose her out of old habit, and i was actually making the game to get a feel of how it would be.
But the point was that Toku of the native americans was maybe some of the worst i could have possibly met aswell?

I mean, his traits + the xp the native americans get from totems and barracks made it very hard from the beginning

Wouldn't have been any worse if it were Sitting Bull, he's Protective too. The Combat 1 bonus from Agg doesn't apply to Archers.

Tokugawa's not so much eager to declare war as unwilling to agree to... well, anything. It would have been worse for you with Monty or Shaka, believe me!

Hahaha Toku. ONE little misstep and you're on his *ahem* list, not that he has any other kind of list.

I finally had sone game where I encountered him after I was able to trade techs - gifted him one immediately upon meeting him and got Open Borders from him!

Course I also had open borders with Victoria (who he really does seem to dislike) and he cancelled ours 2 turns later.

Yeah I have it out for Tokugawa since my last game. He ruined it for me, made me lose when I was winning. He gradually outnumbered me, and eventually out teched me. Long hard war that I could not keep up with especially when france declared war on me and landed a huge force to the west coast. I almost felt like germany during d-day since I had to fight on the east and west fronts. I did not have a prayer but I fought to my last city was conquered.

my best games Tok is there. so is shaka and monty lol. GOD I LOVE FIGHTING THEM. Best is when they love me, it so easy to get them to goto war when they love you.
