I hate the late game soundtrack. Is it possible to change it?

I really like the early game music, medieval to a lesser extent, and the Renaissance isn't bad either. But after that it goes downhill. Is it possible for me to change up the late game soundtrack?

Soundtrack is saved in under this directory
...\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\Sounds\Soundtrack
with subfolders for the different eras.

Delete the files in there and replace them with ones you like, this way you change the eras soundtrack permanently.

If you dont want to delete stuff, you can chose a custom soundfolder in the options menu. Or mute the music with ctrl+m and play some with an external media player

Ignore this and never ever change the default files.

My games > Beyond the Sword > Custom Assets > Sounds > Soundtrack > Industrial/Modern

You might need to either change the XML files to match the names of your music or the music to match the names of the XML files (like copying DesprezElGrillo to the Modern era file and rename it to ThePeopleAreHeroes :p), but I'm not so sure about that.

Or you can mute the game music and listen to the music you want with a audio player or select a new folder for the soundtrack manually in the sound options every time you get to the Industrial era. ;)

You can always choose custom music folder and listen to your own music, whenever you like.

BTW hoe can you not like "people are the heroes" ? :)

This i found is easiest solution. Whenever an era comes around where i am "meh" about the music, just tick that option. I think you then need to toggle the music off/on once for the change to register. (Press Ctrl-M twice)

Personnally, I play with music off, but have the following website loaded: http://nederland.fm

and playing Rock Radio Veronica.....I assume you have different tastes, so click on different radio station or flip to different country england.fm for example, and pick a radio station there.

Advantage of Rock Radio Veronica, no DJs, so just music and news/commercials (though not a lot of that).

Hope that this helps

As a musician I'm a bit annoyed that the music of the mideval era is actually from the renaissance. The music of the renaissance is actually from around the age of enlightment, and the music from the enlightment era (when you get the military units of the 17th and 18th century) are from the early industrial era and so on. They might just aswell have kept to original game music all along instead of screwing up music history.

Civ3 did it better:

Hi folks, not sure if this is the right thread to post in but here goes...

I've been trying to copy the ancient/medieval music to the other eras, because I feel the same way. I followed uat2d's instructions, but when I open up the soundtrack folders, they're all empty. No files or anything. And when I go to Firaxis games/civ4/etc., there's only the option to launch the game, no folders at all.

Am I missing something? I've been searching the forums for a bit trying to find someone with a similar problem but no luck. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Which version of civ4 did you buy?
Did you select a default install, or did you choose a custom install location?
Which folder are you looking at for the files?

I have both expansions for civ 4, bought separately instead of in a pack if that matters. Default install. I'm looking in the beyond the sword folder, with the path that uat2d posted.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's \Civilization 4\Sounds\Soundtrack

if your on a 32 bit machine leave out the (x86)

Hmm, still no option in that folder but to launch the program. Maybe I have something hidden? Or should I try reinstalling to a custom path?

Yeah it may be some permission shenanigans which hides the files from you.
Installing to custom path is recommended anyway for Win Vista+, see the faq in the tech-support forum.

Okay, reinstalled and I can see the folders now for normal civ 4. Apparently BTS and it were in completely different spots for some reason. Still having the problem of custom assets folder being empty (although I can at least see the regular asset files now).

Edit: Well, I just ended up copying the ancient and medieval music to a custom folder and loaded that, seems to work. Now to look up mods :p. Thanks folks.

CustomAsset folders are always empty until you put something in them. The default install just creates them as place holders. What ua2d was telling you to do is copy the files that you want to modify from the Assets folder in the program folders to folders of the same name, created by you if they aren't already there, in the CustomAssets folder. Then you modify the copies. That way, you still have the originals if you ever need them. The game will replace any files in Assets with the same path as that in CutomAssets with the ones from CustomAssets for that game session, when it starts up, unless you disable CustomAssets in the game ini file. That allows you to use the default settings if you choose to play a mod that expects them by disabling CustomAssets for that mod.

Ah, now I get it. Was just the way he put it that made me think some files were in there to start with. Shows how much I know, heh. Thanks for explaining it to me.
