I have a question that I really need answered please.

Can British published games work on an American PC? Does it have any region locking? I ask because of this:

I doubt there'd be a problem. But if you're coming from Civ 4, you will probably be disappointed in that game. The graphics are pretty dated and the AI isn't nearly as good as the one in Civ4. Once you get up to airpower the game becomes pretty much a cakewalk after that. The overall gameplay is not bad though. It's better than Civ3 but not as good as 4. I finally got rid of my copy as soon as I started playing Civ 4.

Thank you, Willem. I've played, and have Alpha Centauri, but I don't have Alien Crossfire.

It works fine. I got civ 4 complete from amazon UK, since I knew the pound had lost a lot of value, it ended up quite a bit cheaper than anything local even with delivery and international transaction charges.

Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire are awesome games. Especially considering how old they are. And there's also the fact I can play them anywhere with an old, old 800mhz laptop.

The units customization part is really nice as well.
