I love Civilization, a lot. It's a freakin' awesome game to me, but strangely enough, I can't seem to get through a game.

I'm not sure why this is. I find myself going to set up games, getting everything going, playing for ten turns, and then quitting. It's very annoying to me, since I used to play through games in one sitting like nothing.

I love coming here and reading about the game. I love reading through the stories and succession games. I love the idea of building a nation out of nothing and warring against other nations over nothing of importance. I just can't get myself to play through a game.

Any suggestions?

Try playing a game on a faster speed, like Normal or Quick. You're probably bored with the idea of everything taking forever to build. Or maybe play as Capac. He can do just about everything, and do it well, right from the start.

Actally I have these periods as well. Its usually a sign of having played too much..but it seems you have not played much at all? Try to set up a goal before you play..which traits you want to try out in combination with what victory you want to achieve. If you have a clear focus before you start, its much easier to find the motivation to finish a game.

or else you can make someone else tie you at the chair till the spaceship reach Alpha Centauri!
;)

Yeah, it sounds like you need to take a break from civ 4 for a while. I play games in cycles, so I'll play one non-stop for about a month, and then move on to a different game, eventually moving back to older ones that I particularly liked.

I do the cycles thing too. One thing that i have noticed is that i tend to quit civ games when they become too easy, sometimes around the industrial age i am so dominant that it isnt fun anymore. Try some mods or raise the difficulty, change it up some. Helps me sometimes

every 5th game i play 3 difficultys higher and if i lose i lose
so far i am still only winning on warlord, havent moved up to noble yet

Get a Wife.

Yes, Wife, her constant complaints like "You're not playing that now, are you?" will only encourage you to make the most of opportunities.:D
