while playing a Gotm, Emporer lvl, 7 civs, raging hordes, I had an AI civ get detroyed by another AI civ. Now this isnt all that strange, but several turns later that same conquering civ apparently had a civil war and broke into 2 civs!
I have never seen this in all my experience with CivII, THEN another AI civ had a civil war and split, but I still had only 7 rival nations....

Anyone else have this happen?

This can happen when one or more civs are destroyed/ or not all 7 civs are at start of the game. I've never experienced it myself but I read in older threads that this splitting will happen if you conquer the capital of a civ (which causes civil war) and you are weaker then that civ. There are some players who will try this trick to get the purple nation back (if it was not in the game).

I had experienced that!! I had played the World War 2 szenario and played the neutrals. Then I was at war with the sowjets. After the diplomatic talking where they declared war I was informed by the game that the sowjets are very great and to win the war it would be better to capture theyr capital (Moscow) that they get a civil war and will being divide into 2 "nations" (the first are the normal russians under command of Stalin and the 2. are the "revolutioners" so another culture of the game).

So I had set the cheat mode to "on", set up a unit near Moscow and then I had delete all units who are in Moscow and had captured the city. Then the first half of the russian citys were be white under the russians and the second half was changing to purple (the revolutioners were showed by the mongols). And then there was a great war between the russians under Stalin and the "revolutioners" under Dschinghis Khan.

It is a few years ago and it was the only game where I had saw that.

I have experienced it once or twice.

The AI capital city has been located close enough to my territory ;that a surprise attack has overwhelmed the defenses of the AI capital.

It resulted in cival war and a split for the AI.

I think there's only a chance of splitting the civilization in 2 from taking the capitol. I don't know what the odds are. I know this can happen when 1 civ tries to take over another's capitol, but what if it's a barbarian attacking?

I killed off all the other players and now I'm trying to split my civ in 2 in cheat mode, but I can only make my civ units and barbarian units.

I've experienced that all the time. I remember an ancient (ohh, maybe... 10 years ago? :)) deity level strategy from back in the Ultimate Civ2 Site days about conquering the top AI's capital. You get one strong enemy, but one strong friend.
